In order to create job security for the ATF and taxes.
People in power will do anything to create a need for their job security. I seen a show on prohibition.
The FBI was created to handle illegal alchohol. When prohibition was ending J Edgar Hoover was concerned
about the need for the FBI and started a campaign on marijuana which was legal up until 1933 which is
    the same year prohibition ended.

No way do I believe this has anything to do with taxes or money…. If that were the case the $200 permission slip would have been raised they would make far more just with sales tax if they deregulated……. So the only explanations are control and or ignorance.

It’s always sad to me when Hollywood makes a suppressed gun shoot so ridiculously quiet. I’m like that’s a 5.56, it’s still loud as could be. The suppressor helps with muzzle flash, but does so little for sound suppression.

Correct, karens can't allow such dangerous items as suppressors to be come commonplace, there'll be blood in the streets, think of the children!

There was a bill going through either the Senate, or the House during Trumps administration, that would have deregulated suppressors, and made them like firearms, just go to an FFL and buy one, but of course the demoncrats took over the house, and the bill died because "only assassins" use "silencers"
But it also didn't make it through when the Republicans had the majority as I recall. Politicians going to be political...

I believe that the stamp fee goes to the federal government. Sales tax is collected by state and local governments.

Why should an FFL be involved? A 6" - 8" steel pipe would make a more lethal striking weapon then a suppressor.

I was listening to the arguments before SCOTUS and they said, no lie, that bump stocks are different than hooking your finger in your belt loop because the bump stock fires more than one round per depression of the trigger and using your belt loop only fires once per depression of the trigger. Some real brain trusts...
Did you listen to the arguments for the pistol brace ban? They stated once installed on an ar pistol it converted it to full auto! The ignorance is profound, how are they even elected.

It's not all that weird. The gov't has shown it doesn't mind killing people. The gov't has shown it is willing and able to entice people in to committing crimes and using them as an example to enforce it's agenda (see The MI Governor kidnapping plot, see Jan 6 planted agents).
I have no hard evidence but it is not all that outlandish to think the government planted the shooter and told him what to do. Like Godfather part 2 plot; we've got something on you and you'll never recover. We won't go after your family if you do this thing which will ultimately end in your own death.
I used to be anti conspiracy theory until all the conspiracies started coming true.

Also very close to how the Outfit (it may have still been Moustache Petes at the time) got the hit on Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak, as he stood next to newly elected FDR.
Some local schlub, 60 fathoms deep to the loansharks, was promised his family's safety in exchange for an up close suicide mission.
Otherwise he, them, and any friend or distant relative would be disappeared, in a most heinous fashion.
