Okay so maybe the title is a little deceiving but I have acquired several firearms from Bass Pro and didn’t spend a penny.
Years ago my brilliant bride suggested we open a credit card at Bass Pro. It is our only credit card and we pay it off monthly. She later told me that she wanted me to use the points we had acquired to get a new gun. To which I happily excepted her offer. So over the time we’ve had the card we’ve built up quite the amount of points. That and BP gift cards I get for birthday and CHRISTmas I have been able to pick up a “free” firearm every couple of years.
Anybody else use the credit card system against themselves?

3 "free" guns so far by using my points. I use it like a debit card. Just make sure it gets paid off every month.

In 2023 I racked up $1200 in points, I use two cards (not Bass Pro) that are paid off every month and take points as a statement credit, so yes, the banks bought me some ammo last year. Just a PSA my dad's friend went to Bass Pro in Portage to grab some 30-06 ammo and they refused to take cash, had to be purchased on card. The man is a Marine vet that served in Vietnam, so you can imagine how that went over.

Must be a Portage thing. I just bought a couple boxes of shotgun shells in Noblesville and paid cash. They didnt even bat an eye.

Speaking of ammo….. a few months back I went into a Range USA to pick up some 9mm that was on sale. While they did take cash he asked for my drivers license. Without thinking I handed it to him to which he quickly scanned the back before I could say NO. I came unglued. Apparently this is something they do a people have accepted as normal. It wasn’t an age thing because I am 4ish decades past needing to show proof of age. Not sure what that was about but I wasn’t happy and haven’t gone back.

I have a fix for that. WITHOUT CLEANING YOUR DL (you want some schmutz to weaken the glue) stick a target paster or other 1"ish sticker over the barcode. You only need to obscure part of it. It prevents a quick scan before you realize it, and if you NEED to scan it for legit reasons (LEO interaction, voting, etc) you can remove it quickly.

And what's it about? Harvesting and selling customer demographics data.

I used Visa card points to fund a mini-vacation for my wife, daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters a while back. It was nice eating well and staying in a nice hotel, while taking in local attractions. We pay off our credit card bill every month and have for many, many years.
