How much ice do you have right now?

Looks like we're going to be back in the 40s next week with lows still above freezing. Thinking about getting out this weekend.

At my age Ice Fishing is done for me. Spring and fall fishing on LM is cold enough for me. I have had ice freezing on reels and rod eyes out there.
    Have a great day.

I gotta admit, some nice hot crappie fresh out of the oil sounds pretty danged good right about now.

My freezer is loaded with crappie. I have it a couple/three times a week. I loped into an air fryer crappie method that goes from freezer to plate in around 15 minutes. Pretty handy fast food with little mess.

Bluegill is my favorite though. I don't have as easy access to good bluegill fishing as I did years ago. :(

I've honestly never really been able to tell a big difference between bluegill and crappie but crappie has always been more challenging to catch so that's probably why I've leaned toward them. My Grandfather preferred crappie so I'm sure that's part of it as well.

Nothing beats walleye but crappie/bluegill aren't far behind for me.

Haven't went on the ice for years but this got me thinking about mt first time. Went with a good friend who had experience, cooooold and a good wind going to make it really nice. He told me to make sure I had everything ready to go so all I had to do was put bait on the hook and drop it in the hole. Somehow he broke his line and needed to tie the two ends together. He would get the knot almost finished and his fingers would stop working right because of the cold. He would stick his hands inside his coat to warm them up and try again. Must have took him five or six trys before getting the knot finished. I couldn't have helped if I wanted to because I was laughing too hard. He has been gone now for quite a few years but the memories are still there, and we had a lot of them. Jim.

Isn’t that what life is all about the memories you have and the ones you leave behind.
Problem is not being able to talk about shared memories with those that were a part of those memories. At 77 years old there are only a couple of those people still alive. I do share my memories with my younger friends but there is a difference between telling the story and joking with the others involved. Jim.
