Hello again! Been gone a couple of hours. I spent some time around Plymouth too a number of years ago. And about the lake. If you have been on the campus you know that just North of the Cathedral there are now two small lakes on campus with a foot path between them. That used to be one somewhat larger lake. At some point in time, not sure when, the good ol'State of Indiana decided that any body of water over a certain size was defacto State property and came under control of the DNR. The good Fathers of Notre Dame said something like we'll see about that and promptly built a dam across the middle of the lake dividing it into two smaller bodies of water that were now too small to come under state control. And that is how the Ladies lake became lakes. Again the original name of the school founded by the French order of The Holy Cross was Our Lady of the Lake, but somewhere in time the good Fathers also dropped the lake part from the name(probably when they divided the lake) and it became just Notre Dame (Our Lady). And that's probably more than you wanted to know about that!!
