    • Thanks for the rep! Luckily it didn't cost me very much to get the rifle fixed up. Still haven't recieved the ammo though.
The stock itself with the gun is amazing. Brings the gun into the year 2000 for sure. The only problem i had (mine takes ak mags) was rocking the mags into place as the grip was too close to the magwell and got in the way. It just needed a little surgery and now all is well.
      Hi BillyT,
The Mini 14 suffered from accuracy problems from the day it was released until the Tactical Series came out. (Bill Ruger called the original Mini "The worlds most expensive plinker.")
The original barrels were too thin for their length, and not braced beyond the stock, as a result they heated up and warped slightly causing the groups to open up considerably. (It's usually referred to as "Barrel Harmonics.")
The Tactical Series has a shorter, heavier barrel and from my personal testing does not open up the group like the thinner barrels did.
I don't believe it would be piratical to try to fit a new heavy barrel on an older series Mini. There are aftermarket attachments that will improve the accuracy of the older models by bracing the barrel to the stock assembly. (Mo-Rod and Accu Strut are a couple.) I have not used one but I've read that they improve accuracy considerably.
Remember, there's no such thing as a "does everything" gun. Each weapon type has it's own performance limits. You just need to determine your personal needs and tailor your firearm purchases to those parameters. :D
Thank you for the rep, it chaps my rear when people use a singular incident to define a group.
