Negative. Not a chance....bring the shiny new credit card or a shoebox full of cash. Now, the answer is, can I only pick up the $80 or so in parts I NEED?
I’m in Prophetstown SP for winter field day. Or is there a hamfest?Hey, is anyone here at the amateur radio event at Morse Park in Hamilton County this weekend?
Years ago, I think early 90s, they had a store on East Washington but not enough hams supported it. They also had an excellent repair service but not for many years now. I still try to buy from them because they are a family store. You probably know already but R and L Electronics over in Hamilton Ohio is a gold mine of a candy store. They have just about everything a ham could desire. Good people to deal with. Not too far for a road trip. Prob about a 2 1/2 hour drive for you. Good website too.
It should be easier if you are an electrician. I always have trouble with inductance, capacitance, and resistance but those are only about 4 questions on the tests. You should go ahead and give it a try. Technician exam is a snap. I got it without hardly studying. General was a little more involved but still not too bad. I did spend some time playing with the practice exams for my extra but passed it first try too. Don't let some of the folks on here scare you!
You can do it!!
DX prices are higher if you shop around but if you need it tomorrow, they are the "bomb."I've had the same experience with DX Engineering. They really are on the ball with shipping.
Take the test. You only have to get 26 right out of 35!I thought about trying to get my HAM license and was worried about taking the test. I’m an electrician by trade and thought it would be a snap. After reading that I’m pretty sure I’m out of my league. I think I’ll buy some Baofengs and put them in the faraday cage when things go bad and don’t have to worry about the FCC. As a side note, I was a underground utility locator for 13 years and remember talking to a homeowner that had this huge antenna array and I commented that he probably gets the best free t.v from everywhere, that’s when he told me that it was for a ham radio and I've been interested every since.
Ive got the Diamond x50 version. Works great.Anyone have any experience with this antenna?
I live in an older subdivision and while there are some restrictions, the majority of home owners could care less. With that being said, I need an antenna for my ham. This has good reviews and will not draw attention to any sort of Gladys Kravitz lurking about in the neighborhood.

Ive actually found them to be competitive.DX prices are higher if you shop around but if you need it tomorrow, they are the "bomb."
@CynicalTake the test. You only have to get 26 right out of 35!
I'm still studying and my goal is to to take two tests in the same sitting. Work is crazy still, but camera monkey set me up with a pretty good study guide from the kindle app. I can regurgitate info fed on a continual basis but to truly understand it is another level for me. The fear of failure has never left me. Thanks top.Take the test. You only have to get 26 right out of 35!
