Smartest thing they did, retired the 1911AARP!
When I was in the Corps, we had some that you would do better killing someone with if you threw it at them. Many shot on other people's targets at 25 yards. They were pitiful.
That was in 1973 to 1976 though..... ;)
They weren't any better when I was qualifying with them 1985-89.

I have heard rumors that the Marines always had to make do with the oldest equipment.
So many fond memories of my Army days with a 1911A1.
I own several Colts and one each Remington Rand and Ithaca pistols just like I was issued.
I never felt underpinned carrying one on duty.
Actually their m45a1’s were newer than the beretta’s everyone else were carrying at the time.

I honestly do not give a rat's *** about what "the military retires".

I do know a plain Jane 1911 runs like top...as do most firearms if you understand them, practice with them, and take care of them.

I also know there are numerous firearms the military never "approved" that run like a top if you understand them, practice with them, and take care of them.

I understand the Maxim gun has been retired.

How do I save one of these outdated, useless, antiquated guns?

Oh wait...they are not effective yet I must ask permission?

Wait another 110 years and the CMP will be selling them by then. Of course, by then, they’ll be called the 1911AARP-AARP. ;)

I'll be dead by then...and praying up to that point my loved ones understand the natural right simply documented in the second amendment to the constitution of the States...and the treats to Liberty presented by a tyrannical state.

I hope they study folks like Thomas Jefferson and Isaac Davis amongst others.

Exactly just like Mil Spec is supposed to mean something.

I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of a Maxim.

My main question is. Will these be retired and sent for extended duty in American civilians hands, and homes?
Not likely. They MAY make it to the CMP who is selling off those 1911’s they had access to. Some of the old 1911’s went to police departments back in the day. I doubt like crazy that a democrat in the White House would ever let them go to a use like that.

Very nice indeed. Something about an all steel 1911. Many will scoff at its weight, but not everyone can appreciate them because they are not the latest and greatest poly blaster.
With my low back issues, the weight is a concern for me as I can only carry it about 4 hours before the LBP begins to creep in...so I tend to opt for something a little lighter, such as a Glock 36 or S&W Shield, and then I can CC all day long. For those who do carry a 1911...kudo's!
That said...the 1911 Commander is probably the smoothest and most accurate pistol I own, although, surprisingly, the Glock 36 runs right alongside the Commander for accuracy...

I really like the commander length also. It has always had the best balance in my opinion.

I also have the BP issue and agree, the weight gets to me pretty quick.
