The difficulty I've always had with people using MJ is the use of it at work. I can spot drunks at work, impaired people on MJ are harder to spot. When they make bad decisions that costs you money, it's a problem that you have to deal with after the fact.
I can understand the problem, but how much difficulty do you have spotting someone impaired by prescription/otc/other illicit drugs?

    From the above link:

“Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind… Most marijuana smokers are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage.”

Lol, today they're providing cannabis vape pens to prison inmates and are seeing dramatic reductions in violence among the inmates. https://loudcloudhealth.com/news/free-cannabis-schemes-to-cut-down-violence-in-uk-prisons/ I can't imagine they'd be interested in trying it if the sensationalist who made the ridiculous statement I quoted above was telling the truth rather than trying to justify his newly created federal position.

Folks. You've been lied to for decades. The same folks who will be approving your 32nd vaccine booster, the same folks who told you Trump was in bed with the Russians, the same people who told you the Hunter Biden laptop was disinformation are the same people who created the stigma which has been so ingrained into a large portion of society about cannabis.
I can't even begin to say how many mean drunks I had to beat the hell out of during my law enforcement career.

    Mean potheads? There aren't any.

    Yep
I was in Grand Rapids and there was a couple shops within eyesight of my hotel. Didn't make me want to partake.
Indiana is still living in the 1960s.
    Lawmakers anyway
Yeah, it's been that way for awhile, if it wasn't billboards for actual pot it was for hydroponics. I'm not opposed to it but it's not a good look when that's all you see coming into a state. The whole concept of decriminalizing it at the federal level is silly, either make it legal or don't, 'decriminalizing' is just a cop out. I could see the argument at the state level but not at the federal level.

It doesn't surprise me the democrats are trotting this out there. They don't have any accomplishments over the past 2 years to point to and if the fortune tellers are anywhere near correct with predicting the great red wave that will hit in November the democrats are throwing this legislation out there as a "hail Mary" to get voters to pull the lever for them.
    It worked in MI.

I was about 15 miles south of Flint in Fenton, right off 23.
yeah, anywhere near flint might leave a bad taste in your mouth (especially if you drank the water :-) ) Flint is a rough part of the world. I grew up in Grosse Pointe, so I had a totally different view of the world growing up.

We've been spending a week up in MI on Silver Lake every summer for the past 15 years (except 2019). I did notice a couple of cannabis billboard signs last year but other than that I saw zero differences between years prior to and since legalization. Looking forward to going up again this summer, the family is going to have a few more toys to hit the dunes this year.
Michigan does have some nice areas, much like CA, CA would be awesome if it wasn't for the democrats lol. I'm familiar with Silver Lake, my dad used to have a summer place just south of Grand Rapids so we always hit the usual spots, Saugatuck, Holland, Grand Haven, Ludington etc.

That's an interesting area along that bit of coast, it's nice but like me if you go a few miles away it's not so great.

By all means, let's give everyone the necessary drugs to keep them calm and compliant!

The first few lines of the plot synopsis of THX 1138

In a city of the future, the use of mind-altering drugs is mandatory. Narcotics are critical both in maintaining compliance among the city's residents and also for ensuring their ability to conduct dangerous and demanding tasks for long periods of time. The inhabitants worship a godlike being known as "OMM", with whom they commune in telephone booth-like areas known as Unichapels. OMM ends every confession with a parting salutation: "You are a true believer, blessings of the State, blessings of the masses. Work hard, increase production, prevent accidents and be happy."

yeah, but for a kid on a bike, it's a great area. GP was "the bubble", and all the BS stayed on the other side of mack/alter (for the most part). In the summer you're on the water/in the pool all day if you're not playing baseball, and on the weekends you'd go "up north" (basically anywhere north of lansing). It was a great place to grow up, but the world certainly looked different than basically the rest of wayne county.

See if you feel like smashing someone's face in. See if you feel like you're gonna have to have more of it so robbing the hotel lobby clerk suddenly seems ok.

Attempt at reductio is at odds with BJS statistics

In 2002 about a quarter of convicted property and drug offenders in local jails had committed their crimes to get money for drugs, compared to 5% of violent and public order offenders. Among state prisoners in 2004 the pattern was similar, with property (30%) and drug offenders (26%) more likely to commit their crimes for drug money than violent (10%) and public-order offenders (7%). In federal prisons property offenders (11%) were less than half as likely as drug offenders (25%) to report drug money as a motive in their offenses.

You equate cannabis with cocaine, crack, heroin and meth. Those are the drugs that drive people to commit crimes to feed their habit. Cannabis is the stuff Doctors, lawyers, business executives, insurance salesmen, soccer moms, grandmothers, and some members of the clergy partake of after a hard day's work when they would like to relax, just like a lot of those same types of people come home and have a beer or two to relax.

I would be seriously interested in hearing the downsides to providing something on a voluntary basis to otherwise violent prisoners to reduce violence. Less violence in a prison saves one hell of a lot more money than they'd ever spend on the cannabis to obtain this preferred result.

I'll go ahead and say upfront that any claims of creating drug addicts is more regurgitated D.A.R.E. ********. About the only significant trait cannabis shares with the harder drugs is it's legal status and stigma. Programmed, brainwashed, misled, however you want to phrase it you've been convinced of truths which aren't.

I am partial to the Lake Michigan shore from Manistee north and Leelanau and Old Mission as well as TC

Petosky, Harbor Springs etc are a bit too Boca for me but Mackinac is a nice day trip

Yoopee has nice hiking/outdoor/kayak opportunities. 75% of MI is awesome

Didn't like GRR much. Had a SLC feel, just controlled by a family instead of a church

What percentage of those drug criminals do you suppose also smoke up? And why do you think that percentage is so high

How many cannabis smokers would not be criminals if these stupid ****ing laws were changed? What difference does it make if a cocaine addict also smokes cannabis?

Find me someone so addicted to nothing but cannabis that they had to turn to a life of crime to feed their habit. I would seriously love to see a real world example of "reefer madness".

It likely is high, but that's more of a correlation. they probably also drink in excess, and abuse prescription medications. They're addicts, so they're doing what they can get their hands on.

It's like the trope that marijuana is a gateway drug. Marijuana just happens to be the one of the first stops for people who are on a path to things outside the societal norms. Most people on that path start with cigarettes at an early age, then move to pot, then on to other things on their road to addiction.
