No, not morels. The chicken of the woods that grows on rotten logs. They look like this:

They've got a really firm texture and they freeze well. I've never had any since but I'd like to.
Never had those, going to have to investigate this further. My luck I'd pick the wrong ones and be tripn for month.. :):

I guess late summer/early fall is the time to find them. Been reading about them in the Great Outdoors mushroom thread.
I have some funk growing from dead branches on the back hill. I'll get a pic and see what they are.
They pooch has been acting strange lately, maybe he's beat me to the investigation. :dunno::):

Just passing through this morning. Doing some route planning and getting more anxiety about this drive. I think I have convinced him to put my snow tires on the bus for the trip. The Duratracs make a huge difference on my pickup in the winter and they are the right size so he just needs to swap them out. I put new tires on the suburban last year, but just regular Goodyear radials.

I never drive this on in winter so we keep the salt off, so I need to put in a snow brush and some other supplies. So many things to do...

I wish I didn't have to go to my parents' today but it needs to be done. It has been three weeks since my last visit.

Well I guess we're not going to the pumpkin farm today after all. Susan wants to wait until tomorrow when it's a little warmer. Guess maybe I'll try burning the brush today.

Ok heres 1 of about 8 of these things on my back hill. Is this a woods chicken?

It's about a foot wide at its widest.

It does look like it. I'd maybe show the guys in the mushrooms thread and get their opinion. That's the color of the ones we got from Susan's dad. It wasn't bright yellow like the one in the pic I posted.
