Can’t remember if Shakey’s had good pizza, but it seemed to be a good hangout when they were in busines.
Used to go to Shakey's in Cal City years and years ago. Can't remember how good they were. Must've been pretty decent because we went back multiple times when they were in business.

Last I knew, Bronkos in Crown Point had closed. Langels is Highland is good, House of Pizza in Hammond, a small place with a sports bar called AJ's off Rt 49 in Chesterton.
I agree the chains are not that impressive. Pizza Yuck(Hut), is about the worst. Plastic cheese and flat sauce.
Aurelios is decent, they offer pasta too. I've hit a couple of Beggars that weren't total loss.
I'm always looking for small private places because they actually make real crust!
    Good luck.
There's a place in Crown Point in the basement of the old court building next to the original jail on south main.

Battista's Artisan Pizzeria - try it if you are in CP.

JJ pizza shack. mmmm... kitchen sink pizza sheet. It's like $50 but the edge pieces are like personal calzones.

I don't know anything about the original, but the Fishers Aurelio's is underwhelming at best. Tried to give them a fair shot and went three times. It wasn't bad, but just wasn't anything to write home about either.
Well that’s a bummer. I had some in Schererville a couple years ago and it was still fantastic.

When I worked there in the early 80s, weekends guaranteed lines out the door most of the night. Part of the fun of going there was watching the busboys noisily clean tables in seconds. It became the entertainment. And yes, that’s what I did. Busboy: the slave of the restaurant industry. Still, many many good times had back then.

Pizza in Indiana? Seriously? New York City has pizza, real pizza. Take a trip to NYC and walk along most any block in Manhattan and you will find real pizza. And remember, Friends don't let Friends eat at chain restaurants, especially alleged pizza joint chains in Indiana.

Good point! I remember Shakey's for the banjo playing guy in the white straw hat. Might have been other musicians too, but the banjo is what stands out to me. I don't remember their pizza though.

There's not one good thing anyone can convince me ever about NYC.

While I have had excellent pizza in NYC I prefer the Chicago style deep dish if I had to chose.

This is why I always come back to Oleys on Jefferson in Fort Wayne. There is a reason they run on two to three hour waits on the weekend, the pizza is amazing.

Any out of towners want to make the drive look me up. I am always in the mood for a Coors Light and a deep dish sausage and pepperoni.
