I was surprised to find no British sold out of service stamp on it, somebody must have just lifted it at some point. Maybe came back right after the war, but certainly before 1968. Not used much, the wood checkering is still sharp in most of the grips.

I gotta give that kutinup guy props for still coming back. I took a real short detour through the political section and the amount of **** he takes while maintaining his cool and still coming back is unreal lol. I wouldnt expect any less from a 2A forum but damn, i think id have thrown the towel in if i were him.
    He lives to troll.

After blowing snow in my driveway and the lady across the street’s, I came in and began playing with the parts that arrived today. I agree with TD, the RRA A2 is not the prettiest shade of gray but I think it will be fine with a coat of paint to bring it to a satin black. This is the Sig 516 upper over a stripped lower with a Larue trigger and Aero LPK.

My parts needed list is starting to grow. I now need a good BCG, FDE SB3, FDE Magpul bipod, a sling adapter for the UrbanERT and some rail covers. This will let me put my .300BO pistol back into service, complete the DPMS restoration to stock config and finish the Tikka.. Realistically, I should just pull the SB3 off of a different pistol and put a form 1 in on that one to SBR it.

Great back story LE. Seriously I could see all of that in my mind.

I can't imagine what that must have been like in England, summer of 1940. All those years of military victories over continental armys and Heinz Guderian hands them thier ass in two weeks.

Leadership made all the difference, with Churchill as PM and his 1000 year speech, it pulled everybody together to fight on.

I don’t think anyone in 1939 had any idea what was coming their way over the next couple of years. Except maybe those that were in the thick of the previous war.

There are times when I wonder if we are in that period right now ourselves. Hopefully not but I would not bet a paycheck on that.

An interesting book is ‘Berlin at War’. It’s the story of how the city coped with the WWII. Hitler had a minority vote from the people of Berlin and he was not popular there. According to the book, the Germans really expected to get away with the invasion of Poland and after the Brits declared war, the Nazi’s were kind of standing around thinking ‘Now what?’. During the first air raids, people would drive some distance to see the bomb damage from the small raids by the Brits.

The entire European war seems to have begun with massive amounts of miscalculation by all involved in what the other side would withstand

There's a line in the movie Band of Brothers that illustrates this, one of the paratroopers shouts at this massive line of German prisoners asking what were they thinking, they are still using horses. At the time the US was producing more aluminum than the rest of the world combined and Kaiser shipyards was launching an aircraft carrier every week.
