Tom is merely stating, you should (or could) start a thread in the intro section.
Introduce yourself. Say hello. Maybe mention things you are into. So the members see you as a person, not a screen of words (hopefully).

His comment about the 50, one liners, and selling in the classies.
The 50 is just to keep out people that want to use the forum as a place to sell.
We try to keep the place as a group of people, exchanging info, that also have the option to buy/sell/trade with each other.
The 50 means you are contributing. (Some people contribute by paying for Site Supporter Status).
Many of us, want to know the type of person we are exchanging guns, goods, services, and money with.

After you get the 50, they don't look to see if the post is "quality".

Many people will post quick smarmy responses.
But before 50, we've had THOUSANDS of people join the forum and post things like "1", "2", or "okay", "trying to get 50", and things like that.
That's not really "contributing".


I hope you stick around. Maybe you'll learn something, or teach something, or just have fun.
If you're not into guns, well we have an outdoors area, and a political area.
If you take blood pressure, might want to take it before venturing into politics. Keep a thick skin.

And some ***holes.
There's over 30k of people here. So there's a wide variety.
Some know nothing.
Some know everything.
Some offer knowledge cause the work on the stuff they are talking about. Lawyers, Police, Paramedics, etc.
After a while, you learn who offers good advice.

I'm not one of them though.
My only advice worth anything, develop a thick skin against the people you don't like.
After all, this site does NOT affect your job, your income, or your life.

So have fun.

In truth I wish he would stick around.

He caught me in a run on newbies rolling through the forum running amok. New breed of cats. Some are cool enough but no one READS THE RULES. So this fella catches a fast ball right out of the gate. 11 year old thread. Possibly because he could not get into the classies who knows.

You’ll be fine. Thanks for the apology to everyone, definitely shows you’re man enough to admit when you **** up. We’ve all had our warnings from the mods for one reason or another. You’ll find they’re pretty cool peeps for the bs they deal with on a daily. The political section gets kinda rowdy at times, we get new guys that troll or try to stir ****, and guys that join just to buy something they saw in the classifieds and never post again. That’s fine, you can pay $20 to be a site supporter and get access to private message members and buy whatever they’re selling, or hang out and get 50 posts. I think you’ll like it here, we got all different types, all kinds of topics, and lots of people willing to help any way they can.

But you better hurry, I’ve been eyeing that canoe also.

Thanks for all the insight! I appreciate you taking the time to help me better understand how things work on the forum. Seems like there are some really cool people here.

There are some very good people here. JMO, seems like with how tight the market is for guns and ammo now, people trying to come in just to buy and sell appear to be just overwhelming the mods right now and really ticking off a lot of the people who are long time members who built this site.

Since I don't fit into either of those categories, let me add to their chorus of stick around, try it, you might like it. And if you don't, then you can walk away.

This may be a gun forum, but there is hardly a topic that doesn't get brought up and discussed, i.e. politics, bacon, cars, hunting, hiking, general outdoors, and on and on.

A few people do seem to be very wrapped up in their post count stats, but there are also some of us who prefer to read, listen, and ponder rather than talk quite so much. More evidence there is something for everyone.
