I might shoot open division with my single stack gun . . . because I can. In fact, my open classifiers (I think I have 4 or so) were all shot with either a Colt Commander in .45ACP or a Sig Sauer P226.

I'll probably stick to the 9mm, though, since I'm too delicate to manage the recoil of the mighty .45ACP.

How did the P226 do in USPSA? This might end up being my weapon of choice in the future.

Where do you guys shoot USPSA regularly during the year?

The gun was fine. I didn't shoot it very well. My message was a bit of an inside joke for those who know me and who shoot USPSA because the P226 is not ideally suited for open division. It's acceptable under the rules, but that's like bringing the family truckster to the drag races at Clermont.

P226 is well-suited for Production Division. In fact, Sig Sauer has produced a couple of models specifically for USPSA production division and IDPA stock service pistol. They also have a big name sponsored shooter (Max Michel) who shoots one of the high end P226 pistols in production division (when he's not shooting a different gun in open)>

Most of the people here shoot at:

WVPPS (Terre Haute) Wabash Valley Practical Pistol Shooters
    AtlantaCC
    South Central

other clubs in Indiana are located in North Porter County, near Ft. Wayne, Angola, Warsaw, Sellersburg, and . . . I think that's it.

If you want to know more, go to United States Practical Shooting Association. They have information you want, rule books online, and a link to find clubs near you.

Only one division for me! I'm that weirdo "one gun guy."

I'll be joining USPSA this year. I listen to what coach, rhino and Jake tell me, although they might argue that.:):

Oh, I guess I might switch to Limited or Open, after I Grand Master SS.

And for you newbies, come join us, I guarantee you'll have a ball.

I'm switching back to production this year. May dable in single-stack a little bit, too.

Production has long been my favorite, but I'll admit it seemed a little hard to tear myself away from the open gun after shooting it all of last year... It's like loving heavy-metal music: even regular rock and roll seems tame in comparison...

Started cranking out practice ammo last week ....

Dude, you shoot that Beretta like an open gun anyway!!!

Is that thing "stock," or has someone been under the hood massaging the trigger and other delicate bits?

pick a division and decide to stay in there for a whole season

I think this is good advice. Especially when starting out, it's hard to learn the nuances of the techniques if you're always changing gear, which changes the nuances. It's easier after you've become more proficient, but still the differences can throw you off a bit.

I pick a division and work on it all season, and I think that's really helped ALL my division shooting. Without fail, whenever I've moved up in class in one division, it seems very soon after I switch divisions I also move up in the other class.

I think it's easier to really, really focus on the details when always shooting one gun. Then when switching divisions it's easy to apply those lessons to a new gun with just minor tweaks. But (for me), always switching means those details are always a variable, and it's hard to chase down perfect technique.....

    When did that ever happen?

I am aware of no fun ever being had or made during any such match or any such dinner afterward!

I use Jerry Barnhart's grip panels, a Dawson fiber front post, a 10 lb recoil spring, and do all my own trigger work. Other than that it's stock.

When my current match gun needs retiring, I'll be switching platforms. They no longer make the "Elite" series and the regular FS has too many drawbacks. But that's a year or two away....

The game plan last year was to shoot Limited, but I had so much fun (and frustration) with the Open gun that I shot the majority of the year with it.
I still haven't decided for this year so I got a huge head start by loading for both this winter.
