I pulled the trigger on this Made in China unit this last summer from Amazon, $999.00 with a 3 year extended warranty and free Prime delivery.. 12K peak on gas and 10k on propane. First thing I did was put a copper core plug in and Mobile 1. I prefer to run it primarily on LP so I snagged 3 old 100 lb LP tanks and I am in the midst of refurbishing them. I am amazed how small it is for the output and how quiet it is. It will run everything on the estate.

Yesiree! If my post didn't convey it, I am quite pleased with this purchase. My bang for the buck itch has been scratched.

We have used a few of those. Harbor freight stocks the 5HP units. I have put them on my garden tiller and a couple of friends tillers, pumps etc. They are stellar runners. Not sure what kind of hours they have engineered into them but they do run very well.

I am looking for a 2nd small inverter genny. Harbor has my attention.

The $/W is just getting crazy. I never could have imagined this 5 years ago. :faint:

Nice find, I hope it serves you well.

Our log splitter has one of those Chinese Honda knock offs. Starts right up, runs just fine. The OG runs the splitter unassisted and has a ball doing it.

I just bought our house last summer.
We had to wait 6 months because in Feb of last year the "big freeze" froze, and burst some pipes and caused major water damage that had to be repaired before we could close the sale.
After we closed, the first thing I did was install a 22kw, whole house, propane powered, backup emergancy generator.
We will not have the "freezing" problem again.
Expensive? Yes, but $8k compared to over $180k in repairs is a no brainer.
We have, already, had 2 power outages in our area that left the area black, except for our house.
So, I am considering it very worth it.

I picked this one up on Facebook Marketplace last January.

Guy wanted $800. I planned on trying to beat him up a little on that price. But when I got there, I found it had under an hour on the meter. He threw in a little dome tent lookin cover that was made for it, and a forty foot long, 30 amp cord. I just handed him the whole $800 and said thanks. I've ran it through a couple of outages, put about 3 hours on it. Runs everything I need with room to spare. Kinda loud is my only complaint.

You bought that right, great deal! I bought mine in similar fashion. One day for no particular reason I stopped at the Pawn America on E 38th St near Post (I know! Right?) and found this guy tucked into a corner buried by other lawn & garden stuff. Asking price was $375. Tried to talk him down $50 bucks but was unsuccessful and bought it anyway. Paid $150 for the LP conversion kit and still think I'm ahead of the average $ per watt ratio. It's a few years older but really looks like it was never ran. I've put 30 hrs on it since April of 2015.

I am new to the topic of generators, but have been seriously considering getting one recently for emergency use. My main concern is to keep the freezer running to avoid food spoilage during a power outage lasting more than a few hours.

This 1600W Yamaha generator from Costco seems interesting: https://www.costco.com/a-ipower-160...red-inverter-generator.product.100343958.html

Too small for a freezer. Inrush at startup would overwhelm this little unit.

Look on the back of the freezer. There is an LRA and a peak amps rating. LRA is start up.

I have a 2 year old 16 CF upright freezer and it draws 1.9 amps of 120V...... So well under 300 watts running.... That genny would easily run three of my freezers...
Including startup... I have run mine on a Honda 650W Super Quiet......

wak, check your freezer specs in your paperwork....If its modern freezer, it doesn't burn a lot.

Age has a lot to do with this. Older freezers are hungry. But in my travels how many people do you know that only power the fridge. If there is a plug it will have a cord plugged into it. Momma wants power.

I have owned some 3000's that would not run a sawzal or a circular saw on start up. We had them to run install jobs that were not powered sites. If you are stepping up and the budget allows, get enough. JMHO.

No information about peak wattage on the tag, or the manual. I tried calling Frigidaire and they didn't know because it's an older model (I'm guessing about 15 years) and the phone rep didn't have the specs available on that one.

You should have an RLA rating. It is required by code to be on the tag. That is "Run Loaded Amps" and will not be in Watts.
LRA or "Locked Rotor Amps" is a rating that states start up current requirements to get the motor in the compressor off locked rotor.

It looks like that information might be scratched off of the label... or in the back of the unit (which I ain't gonna move for right now lol).

By the way, after doing some research on that generator from Costco, I found out that it wasn't a true Yamaha, but was just powered by a Yamaha engine. There's a cheaper version of the exact same unit available on Amazon that uses a Senci engine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M8P1RFW
