I will throw out a low budget, dark horse option. Check out the Taurus G2C. I picked one up recently just because it was under $175 and I have been impressed with it.

It's small enough to carry easily yet big enough to shoot well. Mine has been 100% reliable after about 600 rounds and has no problems cycling Federal HST hollow points.

I just started carrying it in a CYA Supply Co IWB holster.
Was looking at the shield but now considering one of these. Swore several years ago I'd never own another Taurus auto but heard very positive reviews on these. Hard to beat the price of over 1/2 that of the shield.

Kentucky gun has Shields for under $260 right now. Not bad for such a proven pistol. I was going to sell my shield but it's worth more as a car, backpack, etc gun.

I am going to throw out another option... Walther CCP. I heard the early models had issues, but my more current model has been flawless. I sold a Glock 43 to get one and instantly fell in love. The feel is perfect as it has just enough grip to craddle your pinky, but plenty small enough to easily conceal. It has the softest recoil of any gun I've shot in its size category and is deadly accurate.

I'd like to say I currently still carry it, but my wife loved it and has claimed it as her carry gun and home defense gun... plus by my dept policy, I cannot carry anything but Glock. So currently, I am rocking a gen 2 Glock 23, but made the mistake tonight of holding a Glock 43X... I'm afraid I might have to have a talk with the wife about opening our home to another gun in need...

Finally got the PPS out to the range yesterday. A bit snappy, but that's coming from a P-01. A few failures to lock open on the last round, but those seemed to resolve themselves after a few magazines (reaffirming the suspicion that the gun was essentially unfired).

Still in the process of determining what ammo it likes. Did well with my usual carry load of Winchester PDX 124g +P. Did not do so hot with the PPU 124g FMJ.

We have always opened up our home for rescue guns.... it's the right thing to do...

My personal choice is an M&P Shield. I did the original not the 2.0. If you don't care about the "upgraded" trigger, all you get for $100 or more plus is a few very small lines of serration on the front bottom of the slide. That difference paid for most of my Aoex Tactical trigger upgrade. I carry (and shoot IDPA BUG) with the flush 7 rd mg, but on the street, the back-up mags are at least +2's. I have a Sig 365, but It's not a good fit in my hand, and I tend to shoot it high. Both have Dawson sights.

I ended up selling my Shield and realized that I really liked it and could use it for those times when carrying my 2.0 Compact was going to be too much.

So I bought a new 2.0 Shield. I looked at others and though I think I could like the P365, I stuck with what I knew I liked. Plus it is so close to my Compact Smith so the familiarity is there.

I know folks say the Shield has been surpassed by current new offerings, but in my opinion that does not diminish the pistol. It still does what it did when it came out; provides an easily concealable firearm with ample firepower and capacity in a platform that is dependable and robust. I can live with that.

Also love my Shield 1.0, it shoots like compact. I haven’t tried the 2.0 so I guess I don’t know what I’m missing.

Having owned both, I'm not sure you are missing much. But then again, my 1.0 had the Apex trigger on it from the start so I can't remember what the factory trigger was like. So far, my 2.0 is factory, just like my compact. And I like them both.

I would not have bought a 2.0 if I still had the 1.0. I got my 2.0 for around $250 so I figured why not?

I tried shooting the 2.0 Compact a few weeks ago and enjoyed it, but I had to “snap” the trigger to get decent groups. It’s likely my lack of skill but “squeezing” the trigger gave me 6” groups vs “snapping” the trigger giving me 2” groups at 7 yards, might have been 5 yards.

Bought in on the G42 rage a few years back. Nice shooter and fits the criteria, but that 380 round doesn't fit my ammo plan owning multiple 9mm's.
Jumped on the G26 bandwagon and it has been a good choice for now.
I am still not completely satisfied with my sub-compact choice yet and still need to find that perfect fit for me.
