American hunter faces outrage after taking photo with killed giraffe

...An American hunter is facing widespread backlash after posing with the body of a rare black giraffe she killed during a trip in South Africa.

South Africa-based AfricLand Post first posted the photos on social media, calling the woman a "white American savage" for hunting down a giraffe on the continent. The woman is Kentucky resident Tess Thompson Talley, according to USA Today.

"White american savage who is partly a neanderthal comes to Africa and shoot down a very rare black giraffe coutrsey of South Africa stupidity," AfricLand Post wrote on Twitter. "Her name is Tess Thompson Talley. Please share."...

Ignorance is one thing but the insanity of scrambling to avoid information and truth to eliminate ignorance is downright toxic and obscene. Giraffes must be managed just like deer and elk and bears and cougars etc etc etc. How stupid and embarrassing can people be.

    Oooh look I killed a rare animal!

Never understood the need. If she wants a trophy hunt stick her in a fenced area with only a knife with another top tier predator. winner takes all.

The second mistake is giving a poo about what anyone on social media thinks. The first is letting anyone post with your actual name and address on the interwebs.

Just as with Bison in America, making them economically viable will save them from extinction. Our Bison are doing fine right now thank you, not so much when the .gov was trying to save them.

I am extremely passionate about hunting and while I have no desire to go to Africa for any reason, I don't begrudge those who choose to go over and hunt the animals of that continent legally. I really couldn't care less what anyone else thinks about it. If it's lawful and someone has an issue with it they should talk to the lawmakers, not harass those who engage in lawful activities.

    I got no argument here.

Not a rare animal, just a color phase of the common giraffe, which can range from very pale to very dark.

Successfully hunting a giraffe is about like trying to sneak up on someone in a 20' tall treestand, if the tree were mobile and could escape once you are spotted that is. They are capable of killing lions or humans with a well aimed kick and can be quite aggressive.

Putting an animal's life over a human's is pretty disturbing, IMO.

Not only did she harvest over 2,000 pounds of meat, most of which was probably donated locally, but anyone know what the trophy fee is for a giraffe? Certainly more than tourists pay to photograph them.

I'm with you. Killing an animals like this solely for sport? You're not feeding, clothing, or protecting yourself.... so I never quite understood it. And a giraffe? I guess I get killing things that could potentially kill and you, like lions (formerly) tigers, hippos, etc but docile creatures. I'm just not impressed. Seems like little better than a canned hunt, just WAY more expensive.

Do you actually know anyone that hunts in this manner. I do. They have trophys. They pay the freight. It is an industry in an area with no industry. It is controlled with fees and permits much more stringent than you would think. When the animal being hunted is brought down the guides field strip the meat. It is dolled out locally. It does feed people so please....The rest is packaged up to be shipped and there are fees for that as well. Once again an industry where no real industry exists. Then the taxidermists fees. Some are done local. Then shipped to the owners in the states. All of this is legal and above board.
I have no opinion pro or con on this. It is your money and time. It supports a local revenue stream that feeds many.

Also the terrorists love to go and pet the big kitty's.
