Click bait,
Not really a hack I guess, it just took me a long time to think of it.
Removing a barrel from a Winchester 94 to cut and thread. Normally I bolt my barrel vise on my frame rack and us a 3/4" drive ratchet to tighten the barrel in the blocks. but my rack is kind of in use and I thought I would try doing it in my press instead.
What a sweet deal. With the long ratchet it is still at times hard to tighten the vise enough to hold the barrel especially a small taper barrel still but not no more.
My normal holding bench
Normally bolt vise here
But instead I just inserted the whole vise in my press and used some rosin. ran it up to 5000 lbs and barrel was solid as a rock. It made loosening the receiver a whole lot less hassle and took a fraction of the time.
Now to cut to 16" and thread.
