As far as redeeming qualities go. Don't even look for them. There's not much there, other than calling out people who apparently need Scobby and whole gang.... complete with Mystery Machine, to have a clue.

I am frustrated that the mayors are frustrated over gun control.

I am frustrated that you're frustrated that the mayors are frustrated over gun control. It's not that you've done anything wrong. It's just the frustration is contagious.

You'll have a hard time convincing to me that there isn't a bias in the words chosen. So if you felt as if I have been condescending or talked down to, I am only reciprocating.

I've stayed out of this conversation. And aside from this, I'm gonna stay out of it. Just wanted to say this.

I don't know why we have such a problem with everyone else's bias, when, as a part of human nature, we're all biased. It's not like you have no bias. You often call out things you think are dog whistles that truly aren't. And that is because of your bias. And to me, it's not a big deal. I don't care if you're biased. You can't help it. And neither can I. Call me out on my bias if you think that is a point to be made. Sometimes we need to be reminded when that's what is driving our POV. And you shouldn't mind so much if I call you out on your bias. Just don't everyone get pissed over just that.

Given past conversations, I don't blame people for thinking your angle was race. It has been before, it's a conditioned response. Did that cause me to be biased? Certainly. Honestly, I have to admit when you first posted in this thread, I thought race was your angle as well. And not because you are black. If you were of any race, and historically have made things about race, I'd have come to the same apparently incorrect suspicion. It seems evident enough now that it wasn't intended about race entirely. But I wouldn't put it past you to do it intentionally to prove a point. I gotta say, I'm not a big fan of playing games like that. If everyone would be just straight up with each other, say what you say, and own it, there probably wouldn't be nearly the animus.

Another point, I just don't think there's enough justified animus to warrant all this. I've seen some heated arguments on INGO before where the reasons for the hostilities were obvious, but over this? C'mon. People need to lighten up. I mean, what you guys are discussing isn't all that controversial. Yer all making too much of it IMHO.

Taking a break from people watching poolside to check up on you guys.
Are we playing nice or do I have to go back and read all this.

Pool? Where ever you're vacationing, if it's a public pool/resort, dude, you should be sitting next to your wife drinking adult beverages, peering through your darkened sun glasses at scantly clad women, while she peers through hers at the scantly clad men. That's just the order of things.

I do not believe that this is "fair game", personally, and would not have done it myself. I'm not personally fond even of taking posts from other threads on THIS board, let alone grabbing from elsewhere on the 'net. Those are, again, my personal opinions. I'm not aware of it being against any rule at this time, but we'll be discussing it in the mod forum. If I was to guess, there still won't be a rule against it, but in discussion, it will be as frowned upon as is invoking Kellerman in talking gun safety.

Mouse, I'm involved in the discussion. I'm not moderating it. Please don't let the fact that another mod is in here affect your choices. That said, you're on vacation...what the blazes are you doing in here working??? ;)

    Blessings,
    Bill

First, if the opinion of a mere member matters, I don't think posting stuff from other sites is inherently bad. I think it can get bad when it's done to call another member out, or use it to ridicule another member. It's been awhile since I've read through all the rules, but it seems how we treat other members should already be covered in the rules as it is.

Second, can a mod get hammered?

White unlanded men. The last of which were finally franchised in the 1830s. So keeping count, we have, slaves, free blacks, native Americans women, and unlanded white men. All groups not fully extended rights at the founding of the of the nation. Bill, I made a statement, 100%, completely, without a doubt factual. And I'm given grief for it. That doesn't sit right with me. You brought up the issue of property, comparing computers to people, which undoubtedly is a reference to slavery, and then two more people make references to slavery. Despite, the other groups I mentioned applying, only ONE was focused upon. I don't think think it's beyond the scope of reason to ask "why," that is. My contention is either you didn't know which other groups apply or you made an assumption based on nothing I referenced, and seized upon the thing most obvious, my particular demographic, and extrapolated. So which is it? Did you know or not?

Well, there's another human trait. Hypocrisy. People can think they're doing great things to advance the cause of humanity while tearing down subsets of humanity. I don't see the founder's hypocrisy as more than an unfortunate asterisk and an artifact of the era compared to their accomplishments. But I have to admit that if I were part of a group still grappling with issues of equality, past, present, realized and perceived, I'd probably think it's more impacting than just an asterisk.

    Where's the bacon?
    Kut,

I was aware, but as indicated upthread, I knew there were groups I had not named. I had forgotten the unlanded Whites. And just to let you smugly gloat if you choose to do so, yes, my mention of property was indeed a reference to slavery. I don't care who it is that's discussing it, when the discussion arises of "who didn't have full recognition of their rights at the Founding of our country", my first thought, and indeed that of early Congresses, as evidenced by the 13th and 15th Amendment coming before the 19th, is of the former slaves, not of the women, the "Injuns", or, as has been proven, White men who did not own land.

    Jamil,
Neither you or anyone else is a "mere member". And yes, a mod can get banned, though
    1) it would probably have to be done by Fenway, and
    2) the mod in question would probably voluntarily step down and leave the board on his own before it got to that point.

and last, fellow mods, I think that this thread needs review by someone who will look at it without bias.

Seriously, I'd like you to do this, because maybe it's something I don't recognize. Ill be honest in saying that I am skeptical. Skeptical, because of as one of the few people of color here, if I chime in on a racial aspect, it would seem easy for others to be dismissive of my opinion solely because of my assigned demographic. I find that especially valid, based on numerous posts that toe the line concerning the subject.

I'd also like you to exhibit, within this thread, where I have stepped out of recognized decorum, and been hostile, for no apparent reason. I let whomever I'm talking to dictate how a conversation goes. You have an example when I have gloated about being right, after another member has admitted something that supported my stance? I'm not cut from that cloth, and again, I'd like support that belief. Like my above post, you have a perception, that I disagree with. And in this case I can say with 100% confidence, that I have never done such. This makes me have the belief, that with this, and the above, that your perception is based on something other than what you can factually prove.
