My condolences to the families of the victims.

At a time such as this is it shameful to see our leaders use the suffering of others at the hands of an extremist to strip the legal rights of others. Just as shameful is the agenda driven cognitive dissonance on display.

Can't be. The POTUS said that they are not Islamic

Because it is easy. Blame an inanimate object is easy and it requires no critical thinking, in depth examination, or policy changes. The issue of firearm deaths is multi-faceted. For a critical examination you have to look at the statistics which shows that 2/3 of all firearm deaths are suicides. Then you have to follow that path and look at mental health services, HIPPA, lack of funding and facilities and admit that previous policies have failed. This means owning the mistakes of the past and investing hard cash long term to make it right. Then you look at the remaining 1/3 and see that the overwhelming majority of those deaths are gang related. So now we look at the causes of this; drugs, inner city deprivation, income inequality, minority issues, for-profit-prisons, overwhelmed prison system, porous borders that allow drugs in, policing levels. All that takes time, effort, political capitol, money and runs the risk of being derailed by those with axes to grind.

Then we look at incidents like this one today and San Bernardino. Now we have to look internationally at our presence on the global stage, and how our actions might be perceived by others, and what grievances we may have caused. Then we look at our allies who support these very same beliefs that directly contributed to these attacks (and 9/11), our relationship with them, and our financial/military/technological/political support of them and how that has allowed extremism to flourish. Now factor in questions about how to integrate people of different cultures into a modern western democracy, and immigration policy in general.

All these questions have difficult solutions, and there are no quick easy fixes or sexy headlines and soundbites - just honest graft needed to make them right. And that is why it will not happen. Much more palatable for your base voters if you have a soundbite and blame something that promises to be a quick fix, if only the "Evil NRA" would get out of the way and stop blocking utopia from happening.

The news coverage would make for a good drinking game. Every time a talking head says "AR-15" or "high-capacity magazine", take a drink. If I were a drinker, I'd be blotto by now if I were playing along.
You would have been trashed within the first hour if the magic word was "assault rifle"!

That is not from the Quran. I am talking about what the Quran, which is, the one book for Muslims.

7.62, are you speaking from the actual experience of actually reading and studying a Qur'ran? Or maybe taking a world religion class at a University? 79 places in the Qur'ran that says those who refuse to become believers must be killed, and one place says it is a good idea.

I have never heard any followers of islam enraged that the lifestyle system they follow religiously is being falsely blamed for things they do not believe in.

One thing no one has mentioned, is how squared away Orlando SWAT was in this instance. Dynamic entry, into that Hell, with people dead and dying, thumping music, and they got their man with no loss of their team. FN go getters.
Yep, I just hope they weren't also responsible for any of the deaths (except of course, one!).

You would think that the queer community would be among the most pro gun communities in our country. There are folks who would kill you for who you love.

(I think "queer" is an acceptable term again, but to be honest there is nothing I can say that will not offend someone looking to be offended.)

If a culture insists on not defending themselves, that's their call, but don't try to drag the rest of us down into passivity with you. At least the "Pink Pistols" seem to have their heads straight on the issue: Pink Pistols Saddened by Attack on Orlando Club ? Pink Pistols
