So there is this.
DNC Chair: Superdelegates Exist to Protect Party Leaders from Grassroots Competition
FTA:
“Unpledged [super]delegates exist really to make sure that party leaders and elected officials don’t have to be in a position where they are running against grassroots activists..."
Say what?!?!
So she pretty much admitted that there is a class of delegate that can ignore the voters wishes in order to put who the party wants in place. So instead of taking a majority to elect a candidate, we the peons require a supermajority to win.
Though I cant say I am surprised given their propensity to be nannies. "we want candidate 1 as the party leadership. If you vote for candidate 1, we will honor your request. If you vote for candidate 2, we will do our best to overrule your vote and put candidate 1 on the ballot anyway. Screw you!"
Not very democratic, is it?
My only surprise is that they have the balls to admit that they are doing it.
