Cabela's At Hamilton Town Center

I remember visiting Cabela's as a kid in Nebraska each year. It was one of the highlights of our family trip. It's hard to believe they will be local. As a Greenwood resident it is disappointing to see them back out of their plans to build here. It's rare for our family to drive to the north side for shopping.

As far as price comparison with Gander, it will be on par with them so I would expect to find Cabela's price bashing threads shortly after they open up. I worked with a former Cabelas store manager who was telling me that they have three different building models that they have been using. The one that was supposed to go in Greenwood was going to be one of their large flagship stores that is a tourist attraction. Their small stores had a lower overhead and the highest demand items and they were doing well. The one they are building right now is the middle size and they are doing poorly for them according to him, but according to that IBJ article posted above, that may not be the case so we'll see. Either way, Castleton Gander might take a hit, but there are 3 other stores within 30 minutes.

I doubt it, real gunstores are already cheaper, bass pro, gander, cabelas are not really competitive. Good for looking around though, at least the big cabelas are.

I live about 50 mile North of Indy so might visit the new store once or twice. Cabelas also was to build a store in Lafayette a few years ago, when the economy went south the project was halted. Don't know if it will come back to life again or not. The fact that Rural King is selling guns in their stores at decent prices may have some impact. Sure miss the Sportsman in Lafayette. Dick's is the only one there now (other than RK) and the local GS's), been in there twice since it went in two or three years ago ~ doubt I shall return.

I was just telling a neighbor that there was no way they weren't going to be open by September based on the looks of the place. I am excited to have that place a half mile from my house. I can hear Castleton Gander crying in their beers already.

I just got a Cabela's Gift Card for Fathers day..............If they are not open yet, I wonder where my daughter got it from? Oh well $$$ in the bank.

I've always found Cabela's gun pricing to be much more competitive than GM. I expect that we'll see some decent deals for awhile.

Just had a bad experience at GM (their footwear return policy sucks, and the manager couldn't care less about keeping a customer happy), so I won't miss them when they're gone.

What's the over/under on when Gander (Castleton) closes? I say it'll happen within one year from today.

They have all the interior work to do. There was one evening we were at the Imax in front of it and the interior was lit up, looked like they'd started the murals inside.

Still wish they'd have opened the Greenwood store, but I may have to suck it up and make the trek up to Noblesville at least once just to see it.

OK we in Fishers, have the Cabela's............but you Greenwood folks got a Rural King that sells the dang Slim Jim ends, so I will be eating alot more of them than my Glocks eat ammo. Should have dawned upon me she got the gift card at WM or someplace.

This is just the grand opening. They'll have a soft opening before this...THAT I can't wait for
