I can tell you, that I did see the signs. I just thought they were like any other sign and could not be taken as law. I also didn't know it was privately managed until I got the email from the Sheriff.
There was no easy information to obtain saying who ran the fair. I seen a few places where the county actually ran it.

I seen the sign, didn't know it was privately managed.

I wouldn't have carried had I known it was privately managed. It could have gone other ways. They could have been jerks and disarmed me or could have just been pricks in general. I have seen many threads on here about LEO. I am glad it turned out good. My post is no way negative. I just want to inform other members of carrying at the Porter County fair as it is privately managed, as some members thought it was ran by the county. Also, there isn't many positive posts about LEO so I figured I could commend him on the Internet, even though i never got his name...

It did not ruin the day with the family, I didn't think you could get that from my post. If they would have acted differently, It could have easily ruined it.

I see you are being positive about the encounter and no knock there.
My comment was that if you had to leave early because you ignored the signs.....well....just saying.

I am +1 to the LEO on this. As posted.

    Enjoy.

    Well done. Thanks for sharing.

And yes, it was handled as professionally and well as anyone could've asked for (given the situation).

As most would say.... when in doubt, (as long as it is not ILLEGAL, ie. Government/State/US property)... cover it up when you see those NO CARRY signs.

I would think the INGO GPD is a real thing!!! They gave me a badge!!! Are you saying I'm not a real grammar cop????
Hey! Respect the grammar police! They learn me good English!

oh, sorry CPT, I need to reply to the thread like I said in a different thread.
Im still glad the LEO were so cool about this. I honestly like hearing about good encounters with cops because I seriously want to have a reason to respect them, police officers do not have an easy job. Even you CPT :D

I agree. Took the family to the Elkhart co fair Wednesday. Didn't notice the no firearms sign until leaving. I thought I checked on the way in but must have missed it. The sign I noticed was facing me as I left!. Oh well.

Porter county fair grounds, the same place that the Dunes pistol & rifle club have their gun & knife show twice a year, where thousands of people are walking around with firearms?

    :dunno:

I now know I was in the wrong for carrying in the fair, but i didn't know who ran the fair until I emailed the Porter County Sheriff.

I OC'ed for the first time at the County Fair and was approached by 3 County Sheriffs.

I was OCing for about an hour and then basically ambushed by 3 Porter County Sheriffs. When I say ambushed, I mean they came out of no where. I had two on my right side (where my gun was) and one facing me who was talking to me. He was very polite, asked for my LTCH and ID. Said I wasn't allowed to carry on the grounds. He let me wait for my girlfriend to get off the ride since i had our kid in the stroller. He asked me about the length it took to get my LTCH as well and seemed curious. They all left while I was still waiting for my girlfriend to get off the ride. First encounter with LEO and it was an excellent one. Hope all my encounters are that way.
