I know this isn't exactly downtown but Sangiovese on 82nd in Castleton is my favorite Italian place in the Indy area and also has a nice atmosphere. Also, Coppers Hawk on 96th street is very delicious.

But neither are downtown, just throwing out some options.

With all due respect, could it be that you are over thinking this? I say this because I am guilty of the same thing for such occasions. What ends up happening to me is that I set up this perfect setting and than any deviation feels like a big let down. Pick one that sounds good and enjoy the time with your beautiful wife!

I am almost assuredly over-thinking this! As I do everything... :n00b:

My wife and I have eaten just about every place listed, my takes:

Capital Grille - Delmonico steak one of the best in Indy, service great deserts suck though
Sullivan's - Probably our favorite steak place Bone in Ribeye, lettuce wedge and they have Soufflés = awesome
Fogo De Chao - very cool place, bring your appetite1
Melting Pot used to be cool, now they have rally cut back on what you get and very expensive -we will never go back

I would recommend Morton's. My wife and I have been twice for anniversary dinners and we have not been disappointed. Last time we told them it was our anniversary and they gave us free dessert and gave us a nice picture of us at dinner. If you go all out (drinks, appetizers, etc.) expect to break the $200 mark.

you just can't go wrong with Ruth Chris downtown. Best fillet period!

Funny thing about Ruth's Chris. They used to go down to Atlas Supermarket, when it was opened, and buy their "prime" filets from Atlas. Atlas was well known for selling ungraded Atlas filets really cheap (I used to buy them all the time for about 4.99/lb or better). Beware Ruth's Chris when they talk about Prime Beef.

They also do a two for $99 sometimes and currently have a two for $59.99 each steak and seafood dinner. Call to see local pricing, they usually do two for $99 in Indy

All I'm gonna say is this- this is your 5th anniversary. God willing you will have many, many more. Don't set the bar to high, too early or you'll be stuck leasing a private jet to Monaco for hors d'oeuvres by 15.

    Very good point...

But believe it or not, SHE's the one who told me "your mom's coming over on Friday to watch the kids. Pick a restaurant".

+500000000000000 for the palomino. Get her a blueberry mojito and try the shrimp/salmon with a hefeweizen.

I guess I should have read all the previous posts before submitting a reply. I have never been to Cerulian's but my co-worker who is sitting next to me went just last saturday, he says the food was very good and it was a very different experience. He had the monkfish and it was delicious. Not much for a romantic evening though, he says the place is very contemporary.

Ill second the vote for Cerulean. The original in Winona Lake is fantastic. Beats all comers hands down. Check out their website. The Indy location has been nationally rated I believe. It's new, so you can be a trendsetter!

if you have a smartphone, grab the app yelp. it lets you organize by price. i didn't necessarily see anything on your list i'd consider fine dining tho.

If you are abandoning Downtown for other pastures, you might give Divvy up in Carmel a shot. Some very interesting selections on the menu, and you can do a little walking through the Arts District before or after. Totally different from Downtown, but I've enjoyed it enough times that I can vouch for it being consistently good, as well as being quiet enough (and nice enough) for an anniversary dinner. Some of my Downtown recommendations are already represented, a few aren't; but it sounds like you may have decided against it, so Divvy is an alternative.

Take a huge chunk of salt with Yelp. Some of the reviews are OK, but too many are just moaning and *****ing by buttheads. Urban Spoon does a better job.

For our downtown romantic meals, we pick a night when it's going to be cooler (like low 80's at least) and eat dinner & watch the sunset from the roof of Dunnaways. Never been dissapointed there.

Bonge's Tavern in Perkinsville has fabulous food as well.

    Update:

Have caught a bit of a bug and probably won't be going out on the town this weekend. Think I need to postpone until I'm not coughing / hacking / wheezing my way through a meal.

All the choices make me go into overload-mode.

Might as well go to Hard Rock & grab a burger.
