The only indoor range in my area is SO small (How small is it?), you could throw rocks at the targets!
    Outside, without a doubt

I would definitely have to say outdoor. I enjoy longer range shooting, not to mention I don't own any hand guns at the moment. :n00b: Also outdoors, their may not be target holders but I've found that little birdies make good practice for my .22 haha :ar15:

I used to shoot indoors exclusively. It's closer, it's familiar, it felt safer.
Then Jay introduced me to outside ranges and I haven't been back to the indoor one since...so I guess it's safe to assume I like the great outdoors much more.:yesway::)

The ccw drills I practice are not allowed at any indoor range, therefore I have no use for them.

I've yet to find an outdoor range that allows CCW drills. I would pay a higher price than I pay and drive farther to shoot at such a range.

Seriously, range owners and shooting clubs, how can a person develop proper CCW skills if the first two things you disallow are holster carry and draw-and-shoot? This is not the 1950's anymore. People really do carry concealed weapons (shock! HORROR!) and if you're not providing a place to develop the needed skills, why are we paying you?

My general preference, all other things being equal, is to shoot indoors. However, there are only two indoor ranges in easy driving distance: 1) one that has a long wait and poor ventilation that sometimes has me in a mild asthma attack by the time I leave; and 2) one that has a bad reputation, well deserved, for high prices and unsafe behavior on the range.

One good reason to practice defensive work outdoors - weather. Last I heard, the bad guys do not take off for foul weather. If we don't go out and shoot in crappy weather, we will never know how to deal with getting our guns out from under a coat; never know if the gloves we wear will fit in our trigger guards, etc.

How about this one guys? What are you doing with that Sig, Glock, Beretta, HK, 1911, S&W snub nose etc.... etc....? You should be shooting competition with this $2,000 target .22LR pistol like mine. I don't understand what useful purpose a gun like that has? Ahhhh carry it for self defense and possibly save my life or someone elses! That's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!:rockwoot: :patriot: And yes this has happened to me before!

    Huh?:dunno:

IMHO gun owners have to stick together. We must be open-minded about the other guy's or gal's reason for owning a firearm. If holding a single-shot .22 free pistol unsupported and shooting a bullseye at 50 meters is the main thing in your life, then great. If carrying a small pistol or revolver in your pocket for personal defense is your only reason to own a firearm, then good for you. If you take great pleasure in shooting as many rounds as you can and don't care if you hit anything, then fine by me. If you shoot a rifle from a bench rest that is too heavy to hold in your arms and want to shoot 'em all into one tiny hole, then terriffic. If you almost never shoot, but take great joy in collecting a rare unshootable piece, you are in my fraternity.

I don't go out of my way to allienate another shooter because I don't understand his or her motives for participating in the shooting sports. I may not get it, but he or she is a fellow gun enthusiast and we need to stick together.

I shoot pistol mostly indoors and rifles exclusively outdoors, except my GSGs. The closest outdoor range to me has its closest target at 25 yards, which is farther than I like to shoot my pistols.
