Dick's Sporting Goods made the decision to pull AR type guns and has earned the wrath of many. My question is this, if they reverse this and resume such sales will we forgive them, and if they don't how long will the effect hurt their business?
Colt, Target, JCPenney and Sears all seem to have weathered gun owner ire in the past after similar moves.

I never really bought much of anything from them anyway. Probably keep it that way. I like to support lgs as much as possible..

You didn't start this thread expecting any positive comments did you.

But the fact is if Dicks offers a midrange AR like the Troy for $800 again ,most INGO members will be at their door as fast as the law allows, some with hat and dark sunglasses.

I won't give them any more of my business. I didn't give them much before, but mainly because they seemed to be more of a yuppie clothing and shoe store with a little outdoor gear (shooting, camping, fishing) thrown in as an afterthought. :dunno:

I talked to the guy that works the gun counter at the Dick's in Lafayette. He says they have sold more guns so far this year than ever, even when they cannot supply ammo. He said he didn't know anyone was mad at the store or boycotting anything.

If they had the courage to reverse the decision, I'd consider rewarding them for it by shopping there.

Let's face it. They have really no competition, at least in the Indy area. Gouger Mountain isn't serious competition. On top of that, the ammo shortage has caused MANY who say they are boycotting to fudge. I guarantee if someone said they had a load of .223 or .22 bulk, there'd be Ingoers lined up at the door.

I don't think we've hurt them much. Still, I would welcome them reversing that decision. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Man, I wish we had Galyan's back. I'd also love to have a Cabelas store, too.

Dicks corporate knows someone is mad at them, and so do the managers of the Lafayette Dick's.

I took in a couple of discount cards they mailed to me and handed them back to the manager, cut in half.
I informed him of my displeasure with Dick's corporate policies.
He told me he understood my position, though he had no control over such matters.

I told the manager the reasons for my displeasure, and the reason I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

I also penned a letter to corporate. No response.

^^^This...I hate going to a place looking for guns and or ammunition and having to trip over golf clubs, fairy looking golf shoes, soccer balls and other such nonsense. Brand me weird but that kills it for me. Even though I never shop at Gander Mountain it is IMO more of a real gun shop than Dicks ever dreamed of being.

Ok, good enough but if they reversed themselves and resumed AR sales would you reconsider?

I doubt it. Not right away anyway.
I have a few AR's, though not as many as I'd like, but there are still alternatives to Dick's.

Rural King just started selling firearms in this market, including AR's and AR parts.
For now, they'll get my business before Dick's does.

FWIW, my own opinion is pretty much this also, and it does irk me that Dick's caved
so I haven't been in since. Don't plan to do so. That said I'll still shop at the retailers mentioned
in the op that caved in the past and I'm ashamed to admit it but I bought a Colt or two even after the great cave in( when Colt ceased AR sales for a time) by them back in '89.
I guess I've been wondering if most people would do similar and either relent with time or forgive if they reverse themselves as with Colt.

I went there last year to get a Patrick Kane jersey. They wanted $160 for the same jersey that I could get for $80 online. I don't go to Dick's anymore.

Dicks has turned into a glorified clothing store. I buy everything I possibly can from local shops and what they decided to do with the AR issue wont change the way I shop.

    I'll never shop there.
But felt that way before they acted like A holes.
    Just never liked their stores.

    Shut them all down.

    Pretty much this^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Went into the one in plainfield looking for a gun cabinet they advertised and it was totally yuppie-fied. Did not have the product. Wife wanted to look around in another one and loved the clothes but not the prices. Screw-em.
    Nothing there for me.

Unless, they have the best deal on the planet, no way.
This has nothing to do with policy, but pricing. Little Gridiron football does their weigh-in at Dick's. (sponsors) At last year's weigh-in, my son wanted a new pair of gloves for football season. Dick's wanted almost $60 for a pair I found at Wally for $20. Same exact pair. $50-60 for Under Armour shirts for kids... Come on.

    Unreasonable pricing.
