If the governor "asked," then there would be no controversy.

There is no controversy for 99.9% of adults. Petulant children who can't see further than their own desires, their own play room, with no regard for the well being of others, seem to be the most offended.

While you sit at home with a day off, watching TV and surfing the web, your fellow citizens are out working in blizzard conditions to make sure you have power. Emergency services, faced with terrible weather, are saving the lifes of your fellow man. Plow drivers are working around the clock moving snow and salting roads to make them passable for you. Stay out of their way for a day? Tyranny? Nanny State? Grow up, kid.

Possibly the worst blizzard in history is bearing down. Governor issues order to stay off of roads and declares state of emergency. Gets compared to Stalin.

How did conservatives get to this point?

Is the blizzard going to be worse than anything they have in North Dakota every year? I wonder if the governor of ND issues such Diktats.

The Coasts ought to get over themselves. Life is harder in flyover country, and we don't constantly whine about our lot.

This is a good example of what happens when a society refuses to take responsibility for themselves.

The government is implementing a curfew because irresponsible jackwagons will tie up their resources calling in because they're stranded.

The public accepts this infringement on their liberty, because the alternative would be for the government to tell the citizens that anyone out traveling in this, will have to take responsibility for themselves and the government will likely not be able to respond.

People will not tolerate the second option and refuse to take responsibility for themselves, so we all have our liberty infringed as a result.
Do we have to wait until the safety net disappears before you will support ending police curfews?

You have no right to endanger lives by driving a car in a Nor'easter. When you drive in this stuff you endanger the lives of those that must come out to save you. You have no right to their lives.

Why do you think someone has the right to the life of another, ram?

Just like people have no right to climb mountains and endanger would-be rescuers? Or hike in canyon country. Or whitewater raft. Or rock climb.

I admit those are recreational diversions, but if you choose to take a risk, you reasonably should not expect to be rescued. At least not in the world of adults.

    Ditto for blizzard driving.

North Dakota versus Mmassachusetts. Yeah, no difference there. No major metropolitan areas. Population density. Infrastructure differences. An ocean. Good comparison.

Some conditions may exist where people must be rescued so that crews can do their job. I think that's a situation were consequences above the natural ones are in order. But not just for driving on the roads. Punish when they've actually caused the harm.

I will answer that, don't prosecute me for something I may do in the future on the chance it may hurt someone maybe.

This is so silly that I don't even know where to begin. How much snow must there be on the road in order for me to be committing murder by driving on it? 5"? 10"? How much rain? What if there are puddles? What if my tires are a little old, am I a murderer? What is the minimum tread depth, your honor? Seriously.

If they don't want to come save people, they are more than welcome not to. That is their personal choice. I am no more responsible for their career choices than they are responsible for my driving habits.

I've been in blizzards in Nebraska, Manitoba and Minnesota. They're not picnics, sorry. And even the 'normal' weather is pretty intense in winter. Frankly the factors you cite are irrelevant, unless you want to cling to this notion that the coasts are somehow more deserving of our attention and federal relief monies.

    And that's every year.

    Also experienced one in Chicago.

You are making a distinction without a difference. Bad weather is bad weather and will kill you wherever you live.

And in a blizzard that harm is caused by congesting roadways. Waiting until the slide off occurs, blocking the ambulance en route to your house responding to your stroke, is negligent. This is the entire thrust of a state of emergency. Making things flow as easily as possible until normalcy can be restored.

Again, Libertarians with nothing to offer but snarky remarks. I've pretty much lost all respect for Libertarians if INGO Libertarians are an accurate representation of them. I'm beginning to see why the 99% of the population who don't identify as Libertarians regard the 1% who do as kooks.

Because every act of governance is an infringement, doncha know.

I think the state has every right to make such mandates if it is going to be expected to bail out the stupid people.

Congested? Aren't you exaggerating things a bit? There will likely be people out there that shouldn't be out there. Mostly they will be those who end up out on the roads just because of circumstances. But very few will do it just for the thrill.

As far as punishing people, when your irresponsible slide-off endangers people, you've actually done something worthy of punishing. When your irresponsible behavior has blocked the ambulance en route to my house, you've actually done something worthy of punishing. Maybe I'll sue you after I recover.

It is well after 4 and traffic is looking bad up there now and people are still trying to get to the store. What about the people who do not get off work until 8,9,10......? Do they have to stay at work with no food and water or are they allowed to try and get home?

The state has every right to mandate public education if it is going to be expected to support people who can't get jobs.

    1. I don't speak for Libertarians. I have voted for a few of them but I am not a member of their party.

    2. The situation is directly analogous to your position on maintaining the drug war. I just wanted to know if you are consistent with your logic about "personal responsibility."

LOL. When ending the "drug war" is the only thing you live for, I guess everything seems "analogous", even if it isn't.

Come on, doesn't matter what kind of a blizzard or rain storm or what ever.... this liberal nanny state government is over-reaching. I am a full grown man and I can make the decisions on whether or not to drive in any kind of situation.

This is the kind of BS you can get from the east coast socialists that want to micro-manage every aspect of human behaviour. This is not America.........

I drive, it is on me....... period!
