The following is a list, provided by the White House, of executive actions President Obama plans to take to address gun violence.

    1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
Define relevant. Who decides what is relevant? Another excuse to collect more information on their enemy.

    2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
Unnecessary legal barriers being a person having a backbone and saying "No" to someone else trying to tell them what they can or cant do. Using HIPPA to prosecute anyone that doesn't report dangerous elements to big brother.

    3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
Do it, or ELSE! We will take your money away, we really will!

    4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
Like mexican drug cartels? Like straw purchasers? Like ATF and DOJ agents that specifically bypass EXISTING gun regulations, etc?

    5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
Seize my gun without probable cause or a warrant? If you got that, then you dont need a background check and perform your investigation. In the meantime, we'll seize EVERYONE's weapons and we'll start the universal background checks. That'll be a nice reset for everyone and ENSURE that we all are safe....

    6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
Yeah, and in the meantime. I'll teach WALMART how to ring up sales for my garage sale...

    7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
Responsible? Coming from the government!? HAHAHAHAHAHAH!

    8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
Let the Free Market REIGN! If it dont work, they'll have lawsuits, etc, and they'll eventually go out of business/lose money.

    9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
You mean you need to figure out of a gun was stolen or something before you destroy it!? HOW DARE YOU! Oh? you can go ahead and destroy it, but still need to trace it's origins? Oh, okay, same old same old then. Not that they'll tell the owners unless they decide to prosecute....

    10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
How about to the public as well? Can't let the peasants have too much info.....

    11. Nominate an ATF director.
That gun control advocate from chicago that has worked so well for them? HAHAHAHAH!

    12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
Teach your grandmother to suck eggs....

    13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
Yeah. Things like make certain things MORE illegal! Not that we'll enforce all the laws on the books....especially when arming drug cartels...

    14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
Yes, because gun violence is a DISEASE! Doesn't DOJ and FBI already track statistics for this sort of thing? I know! We'll define gun ownership as a DISEASE and we'll use HIPPA to have the doctors report all diagnoses to the fuzz for weapons removal and seizure so that they can do a more complete background check!

    15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
Lets tell the free market and private/public companies what they can or can't do/sell...

    16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
Affordable Care Act also does not prevent me from telling my doctor to sit on it and rotate either....

    17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
Like a kid in the lobby making an imaginary gun with his thumb and finger. We can suspend them from school AND the hospital now at the same time!

    18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
Like not having kids/teachers killed? Naw....gotta have someone to tackle the kid with the imaginary gun...

    19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
Yeah, can't have something unless the gov't tells you that you can have it...

    20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
Like Gun Ownership! It's a mental health disease!

    21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
If you have that disease of gun ownership, then you have no benefits!

    22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
All must pass the mental health checks. If you do not have the proper thoughts, then you are a non-person!

    23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.
Yes, because a conversation or meeting MUST be dictated by Executive Order! How bad is it in his cabinet if he has to use an Executive Order to get them to talk to each other?

All the executives orders sound like a great plan to me, although I have yet to read the actual text. As for his urging on what congress should do, we all already knew that was the way he felt. All in all, I am extremely happy with the outcome, but I'm sure that will **** some of you off. Good thing I don't care.
Wow.... are you even a US citizen? Do you know your history? Have you studied the effects of gun control, particularly in other countries? When will you care? Which right needs to be infringed upon for you to care?

Once again, there is absolutely no new gun control legislation being passed. Speculation and tinfoil hattery is abound. But no actual legislation that infringes any more so upon my rights or those of others.

First amendment, and I bet we'll hear him ***** a lot.

It isn't about them taking away the second amendment. Its about them taking away ANY amendment. This just so happens to be the one they're focusing on. Yes I love my guns, and my freedom. But what pisses me off more is they're ****ing up my rights. Wether it be the first, third or hell the fifth amendment, I don't care. I am mad because they are infringing on them!

I don't have any problem with the uniform background check. Didn't I have to go through that for every handgun I purchased from my local firearms dealer over the years? Didn't I have to go through a background check for my LTCH years ago and then again on each renewal thereafter? The "assault weapon" ban will never pass Congress. Nothing has changed thus far, sanity should prevail and tell the Congress you can not legislate violent crime out of existence. If you could, we would have built so many prisons and keep filling them up past capacity.

I love how he labels these "common sense" when in fact they provide very little solution into preventing Sandy Hook.

I agree that this does have a large potential for abuse.

"Oh, you were diagnosed with depression 25 years ago....no guns for you."

Hopefully it won't come to that. However, I can see that one undermining some of the rest of the points; what gun owner is going to seek mental help if they think that the government is going to take their guns away for doing so?

The real issue behind the violence is an issue of mental health, and doing something underhanded like that is only going to undermine the trust that is needed for a mental healthcare system to work.

    "Urge congress to"

_ Universal Background Check for any gun purchases
_ Restore ban on "assault weapons" and 10-round capacity for any magazines
_ Confirm ATF director Todd Jones
_ "Put more cops on the street" paid for by whom??

    Executive orders:
    (crickets)

CONGRESS SHOULD require universal background check for any firearm purchase
CONGRESS SHOULD restore ban on AW and ten round mag limit
CONGRESS SHOULD make it harder to manufacture military style assault weapons
    CONGRESS SHOULD help law enforcement

I'm no legal scholar, but I think we dodged a bullet here. We still need to be watchful and diligent on behind the scenes stuff, but this was all feelgood BS. Congress still needs our pressure, but Harry Reid knows the score.

...sit back, and watch very very carefully how this all goes down.

    My guard is still up.

Definitely agreed; this was the first strike, and although it is not as (overtly) powerful as we expected, the battle is far from over.

Maintain situational awareness. Contact your representatives, join the NRA. We all have a part to play in this.

Well, I'm not AS pissed after reading the 23 EOs. However, when this does not stop the next mass shooting, what will they try next? It will all eventually lead to a total ban... maybe years and years down the road, but I'm sure they will try it eventually. I'm just glad no bans on magazines or firearms were in the EOs. And I do see a potential abuse of #4

If a 10 round mag capacity and the AWB pass, yeah...you'd be wrong there.

Look at NY and get back to me with how "nobody is coming for your guns".

It's mind boggling how far outside common sense and reality most of you will go just to make a disparaging comment about the President.

    :wrongdoor:

Stick around here at InGo! you will here allllllllllll kinds of crazy comments,
especially ones about the president. Here in America and INGO we can talk :poop: inaccurately and accurately about our elected officials on the internet, at work, home, and church, grocery stores and of course frigging INGO. "hopefully" with out the fear of being kaned, torchered, detained and suspended from INGO as well.

Also some Ingoers will continue to talk disparagingly about our president as long as his irrational agenda continues to threaten us from shooting paper and steel with our black rifles. I will continue to talk as long as he wants to prevent me from carrying 16 rounds in my pistol instead of 7.

Now its time to write extensive letters and concerns to congress.
