Not necessarily concerns, more like thoughts.

I have owned both a Kahr CW9 and a currently a S&W M&P Shield. I've got to say I didn't really care for the Kahr as much as I wished to. The condition of the polymer frame was simply the sloppiest that I have ever seen. Very disappointing. I don't really have many complaints against the Shield. It's a joy to shoot and I carry it daily, however I don't like to manual safety and just carry it safety off and can't help but wonder if there might be another great option that I have over looked. I've looked around and seen some good stuff about the Bersa single stack 9's, but don't know anyone with firsthand experience. Anything "better" that would be worth considering trading it for?

Depending on size and cost constraints I like the Sig P225 (P6) and HK P7. Also the S&W 39 Series are really good guns. I like the SA/DA pistols with hammers personally.

If you are talking about only single stack 9's, then no. I have tried quite a few and the best for me was the PM9 until the Shield came out, now it's the Shield.

    Really like my Walther PPS.
Would also look seriously at a Beretta PX4 sub-compact, even though it doesn't meet the single stack criteria.
I think the Sig 938 is also a real winner.

I think you'll be happy with it. The Sig 239 would be my first choice, if I was in need of a "current production" single stack 9MM.

Walther PPS is a great gun, finished much better than Kahrs. Also, no manual safety, but extra mags and parts are a little pricy. I love mine, and I'm not looking at switching anytime soon.

Amac91, I also have a Ruger P89 (and P90) and love it, and also prefer DA/SA pistols with hammers for the range, steel shoots and home defense. However I also have a Kahr CW9 for IWB carry and couldn't be happier with it. It's run flawlessly every time I've taken it out for practice and I like the way the DA trigger as broken in. I can shoot it accurately enough for it's intended purpose. I'm not a fan of a manual safety on a carry weapon.

What specifically don't you like about the CW9?

I've never owned a 239 but I hear they are excellent guns from a friend of mine who CCW's one every day. The P225 and the 3913 are guns I regret parting with and they would make excellent choices as well. I know what you're saying about the CW9 but mine has been totally reliable and very accurate so until I'm in no hurry to part with it.

I didn't like when I field stripped it for the first time that the polymer frame was full of shavings and burrs and completely unpolished and looked so half ass. Compared it to my LCP and if ruger could get it right on a 300$ gun why can't Kahr do better than a **** poor job on a gun that costs 125$ more. The crap quality of the finishing made me uncomfortable with it as well as all of the "rules" associated with operating it. I just felt like I had to baby it way too much than I would prefer to. I want a workhorse that I wont always have nagging concerns about.

Before you give up on the Shield, did you try an Apex trigger? I think S&W intends for it be carried safety off, but S&W designs firearms with a lawyer in the room, so its there. Safety off, with an Apex and a bit of a trigger job its a nice pistol.

I've never shot a 239, but as pricey as they are I'd try to get the Shield to work for me if possible.

Too be honest I don't really have anything against the Shield. Carries and conceals fine and it's really easy to shoot. The trigger isn't as horrible as people make it out to be.

I have to second the P225. I have had this firearm for over 5 years now and has always function reliably (even with cheapo promag mags). While it is no longer my primary carry gun, I wouldn't hesitate picking up a second for my collection... and its pretty inexpensive.

Someone mentioned the LCP, I bought the LC9 a while back. It was a jamamatic for the first 500
rounds, then it broke in and will feed most any standard velocity round, even hollowpoints.
The double action only is weird, sort of like a DOA revolver. I've shot a lot of double action revolver,
so it doesn't bug me. I think the Kel_tec is very similar, and cheaper, so check that out too.
