Start w a comfy .38 that really fits her hand, and when she is ready for it, introduce .357 for that "special" occasion. Don't start her on a mouse-gun.

I share my magnum with my lady on all the "special" occasions. I got nothing smaller. Is that wrong? :D

My wife has tried a few different types of carry pistols, and right now she has a Khar. She likes it mostly because it's small enough for her to comfortably use, as well as carry in her pocket.

took my wife gun shopping, she picked out the pink taurus millenium, went home immediately and HAVE NOT taken her gun shopping since! Its very true women shop only with their eyes.

This is not always the case. Just because we want our guns to look we want it, doesn't mean that we make a wrong choice. As long as we can shoot it, what should the man care what it looks like.:twocents:

what is a recommended gun for my wife. i was thinking about a .380

You guys are missing the point of this thread. Take the woman into look at the gun. Have her hold it. Have her shoot one if she has the opportunity. You can go with them and let them say which ones they like and tell them what the differences are if you know them. Main thing let her hold it and pick it out.

Definitely need to let the lady pick the one that feels right for her. My wife finally bought her own carry gun recently. It was the first handgun she'd picked up and manipulated that she was actually excited about. It helped that the S&W M&P 9 Compact has ambidextrous controls!
Let 'em shoot as many handguns as you can find. You never know what someone ( male or female)will take to.

Very detailed ! Excellent !! The original post will be helpful to both women and men.

It's my personal view that every legal and capable person in the US should at least know how to safely fire a handgun, a rifle and/or a shotgun. (It should be required for earning and maintaining citizenship). Loading, charging and unloading included.

Purchasing, carrying, etc. is optional but please at least go try it.

Learning to safely clean a weapon would be great too, if inclined, but it seems like some people avoid cleaning guns like some of us avoid doing the dishes. :D

The most important factors for me are

    1. It works, No bersa's or the like.

    2. She is comfortable shooting itand enjoys it to some extent

    3. She can carry it in some form or fashion

Taking all this into account we moved from a G26 to a Kahr PM9. We may go back to the G26 now that she is getting comfortable dressing to carry. I will update with any more updates.

my girlfriend and i have it figured out! we both love guns, we buy guns we both like, depending on which one likes to shoot them better, we make it there gun. except, i did buy her a raspberry ruger lcp, nope we don't share that one, it's all her's but we have 2 remington 1100's she loves to shoot, i have a super x2 she likes, with her only being 100lbs it's hard for her to shoot my .270 or my stoeger 12 gauge, i have a pair of marlin 1894 stainless long guns, she likes the .357, and i the 44. working together only makes sense!

I've taken my wife to Bradis, Pop's, PSS, BGF but haven't taken her to ITP...... After taking all the time she needed to she never once said she liked a handgun out of all of the handguns we looked through...... Yeah she did the "Ohh, LOOK it's pink!" After we have gone to all of the shops I took her to the 1500 (her first time at a gun show) Low and behold she makes her way to PSS's tables and finds her way to a Walther P22..... Finally I hear the words "WOW that feels really nice." Then she racks the slide to feel the spring pressure and says," I really like that, It's not as hard to rack as the Keltec PF9." And she looks over at me and I'm just :D and I say to her," I'm pretty proud right now, you didn't select a weapon based on looks alone." She shot me the "wife" look and we shared a laugh..... All in all I think it's ultimately the woman's decision on what they are comfortable with..... So I am currently in the market to trade off my PF9 to get her the P22...... Lucky she isn't a member yet so I don't ruin the surprise......

I lent a gun to my daughter. I am not worried about her proficiency since she was trained as a Marine. She was somewhat disappointed with the Bersa .380 that I lent her as she covets the Kimber.

I'd be most concerned if a guy wanted to buy his lady a gun, and she wasn't wanting one.
I bought my first handgun myself, over 25 yrs ago, when i was single. I hated it, too. (.22 Jennings). Next gun was a Rossi .38 Special I shared with hubby. Got rid of those, had no guns for quite some time. (kids in the house, some heated arguments and drunken partying in our younger days, etc.) Recently went with hubby to look at a 9mm we planned to share. I'm not all that crazy about semi-auto for my own CCW, and really liked the .38 we had, it was just too big to carry. While there, I spotted a used .38 Pink Lady, and asked to see it. So we walked out with 2 guns. :) Recently got a .22 Browning Buck Mark for fun. So when we go to the range, I'll fire a few with the .38 to stay in practice, and then go to the .22 for some fun, easy shooting.

When I moved out of my dad's house, he gave me a S&W 9. He knew I hated that gun. I'd fired the gun before, caught my finger on the slide and I STILL have the scar from it. His mindset was that it was better for me to have something around to protect myself, which I agree with to an extent, but that gun sat locked up for oh, 6 or 7 years, until just recently. Mainly because I hated it and I couldn't carry it because it's so freakin' huge. Now, I don't hate it quite as much and I'm starting to enjoy shooting it.

This year, my boyfriend purchased a KelTec P3AT for me for my birthday. A gun wasn't on my birthday wishlist, but he's spent enough time with me in gun stores and knows what makes me oooh and aaah. :): Had he not known my type, he would have not even thought of buying a gun for me. He knows better then to buy a pink one, as my favorite colors (for guns at least) are black or stainless. Shiny is good too, but that works best for jewelry. :D

My wife is new and inexperienced to firearms. I would love for her to go pick her own, but she's going to base her decision off of my knowledge, experience, and preferences anyway. Until she has the confidence to head to the gunshop or range without me. I think she'd prefer if I picked out her handgun(bonus if it matches her handbag)

don't even thing about getting her a s snub nose revolver without letting her shoot one first. If she likes it thats one thing. I have found no firearm more likely to turn people away from guns than a J frame that was pushed on someone,

I don't believe it has as much to do with the gun, but the ammo. More powerful round, more recoil transfers to shooter=less enjoyment on new shooter.
