Zesto's in New Haven tonight. The wife treated, gotta love her. I've been OC'ing off and on for about three weeks now. I have had absolutely no issues. My wife says I look like a Cop. Maybe that's the secret.

I'm trying to decide if I want to carry open or concealed. I just got my CCW yesterday, and I'll tell you in the hot summer, I think it would be easier to carry open.... Good to see North side of Indy (Keystone @ crossing, and noblesville area) don't have any issue.

I guess that is an OCW?

Anywho..... McDonalds in Brownsburg for a McMuffin this morning, and Some Guys Pizza this evening. I walked ahead to get the door for my wife, and she saw lots of folks cast nervous looks my way. Not a peep, though. I guess folks in that part of town aren't as used to OC as out here on the edge of rural. Still had a nice anniversary dinner, and picked up the baby from grandma on the way home!

Only an occasional issue here and there across the state. Its less one department, and more specific officers that dont know the law.

I just got my license today (its an LTCH, License to Carry Handguns, BTW) so I am new to it as well. OC is certainly far more comfortable, and it trains you to be aware of your situation, which is essential. Oh, and welcome to INGO! :welcome:

Sorry guys I am watching mind numbing television and reading and replying on forums at the same time. I meant concealed carry permit. But i know it's an Indiana handgun permit.

Uh, oh. Cru woke up the License Nazis!!!

You'll get picked on as long as you call it a permit. Technically, it is called a License to carry handgun (LTCH). CCW = Concealed Carry Permit. We don't need no stinkin' permits! We also (as you already know) don't need to conceal.

All in good fun! Though some folks do get really serious..... I'm just glad you carry!

Thanks for that. I don't take things on forums to personally as I know people are just having a little fun. :D

But yes, I am going to OC this week. I'm just getting used to the feeling of having a handgun on me in a public place other than a range.

My wife today said she felt strange just having it in the car. I can't wait to see how she feels wearing it in a mall or something.

She'll forget you have it, after a while. My wife asked if I was armed at dinner the other night. I asked "what do you think?" My shirt was untucked that day, I guess!

Better yet, take her gun shopping. Then you can both OC to the mall!

I think it helps. I am starting to look more like the Marine I plan to be, and I get comments asking if I'm LEO/MIL when I OC. "Nope, not yet. Just a citizen," I tell them.

Oh, that reminds me of a nice encounter I had with an elderly gentleman in one of the motorized chairs at the Terre Haute east WalMart yesterday...

I had just picked up a box of power bars and put them in the cart and was still kinda glancing at the other options on the shelves when he appeared around the corner, pausing because I was in the aisle and there wasn't room for him to slip by. As I started to move my cart out of the way, he quipped, "since I see you're carrying, I'll not yell at you for being in my way."

    I smiled.

"You got a badge to go with that?"

    "No, sir."

"Ah, just carrying on the regular permit."

I decided not to press the permit/license issue, replying simply, "Yep."

We had a nice chat about things you have to think about when you OC — situational awareness, basically — and how he was "old fashioned" in his preference for wheel guns. "If I can't get it done with 6 shots..." I told him I thought he was going to go with, "I'm old fashioned, so I prefer the 1911," but he says he doesn't like semi-autos. To each his own.

It was a really nice chat. I've said it before, but it's worth re-saying: if you don't want to talk to people about guns, don't let people know you're carrying. But if you're OC'ing, it's a good idea to be in a state of mind that allows you to pause to talk to people about it. If I'd been in a hurry, I would've it covered up. When you OC, you really are an ambassador for gun owners everywhere, and the way you conduct yourself should foster an attitude of "who cares?" within the public about seeing guns in public places.

I got the same thing today with my woman. She said she got the feeling everyone was staring at us in WalMart. I only counted two or three weird looks though. Malls might be a bit more interesting, Simon Malls are unfriendly. I talked to the security guard the other day, and he basically told me not to OC at the UP Mall, or he would have to ask me to leave. This is coming from someone I sort of know! (He hangs out in the Gamestop where my girlfriend works). But, you have to get used to it somewhere. If she is anything like most woman, a mall is where she is going to feel the most at home
