Judging solely by the story, that POS is the epitome of a JBT.

I can only think of 1 reason to push/slam/beat an 84 year old man and that's if he has a weapon and is trying to harm me or mine.

What a badass this guy is.

All I can say is that I hope, if there is any justice left in the world, that the civil suit results in the couple being able to live a very comfortable life for what's left of it & provide a nice inheretance for their kids.

    What a bunch of :poop:.

Maybe it was like Tucson and the officer didn't start beating the elderly man until the officer had seen a fist flying near the elderly man that the officer had mistaken as a fist belonging to the elderly man when in fact it might have been the officer's own fist as it ricocheted off of the elderly man.

I think all of you need to take a step back and look at the entire scope of that story, that poor servant of the public just wanted to go home to his family that night! Is that so wrong? I'll say it as clear as I can, OLD MEN ARE TERRIFYING!! OFFICER SAFETY!!! (hopefully I don't need to put that in purple).

Hopefully, that elderly man becomes the CLEO in that town, and JBT gets to share a room with big Bubba. I have absolutely no faith in our system anymore, but there is always hope.

...there is "no such thing as citizen's arrest in Alabama,"

    :orly:

    Alabama Code citizen's arrest reference:

    Section 15-10-7

    Arrests by private persons.

    (a) A private person may arrest another for any public offense:
    (1) Committed in his presence;
    (2) Where a felony has been committed, though not in his presence, by the person arrested; or
    (3) Where a felony has been committed and he has reasonable cause to believe that the person arrested committed it.
    (b) An arrest for felony may be made by a private person on any day and at any time.
    (c) A private person must, at the time of the arrest, inform the person to be arrested of the cause thereof, except when such person is in the actual commission of an offense, or arrested on pursuit.
    (d) If he is refused admittance, after notice of his intention, and the person to be arrested has committed a felony, he may break open an outer or inner door or window of a dwelling house.
    (e) It is the duty of any private person, having arrested another for the commission of any public offense, to take him without unnecessary delay before a judge or magistrate, or to deliver him to some one of the officers specified in Section 15-10-1, who must forthwith take him before a judge or magistrate.
    (Code 1852, §§449-452; Code 1867, §§3998-4001; Code 1876, §§4668-4671; Code 1886, §§4266-4268; Code 1896, §§5215-5217; Code 1907, §§6273-6275; Code 1923, §§3267-3269; Code 1940, T. 15, §§158-160.)

    Gary! Not cool.
Officer of the month, indeed. Remains on duty without reprimand, really.

This sort of thing sends a clear message to civilians. 'Our badges place us beyond reproach. We will beat you and we will kill you and we will get away with it.'

Before someone says something about bad apples, I believe most LEOs are good people. I've dealt with officers that were professional and efficient, even polite while carrying out their duties. I've also dealt with officers that threatened me with beating and jail time just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time but, just bad apples, isolated incident, right?

Pretty sorry event. It's hard to read the story without getting pretty upset. The cop did it because he could. It's the same mentality that lets our "finest" pass you going 90 on the interstate with their family because they can. Ever notice the cute little FOP stickers attached on many license plates in our state? That tells a cop who pulls someone over that my husband, wife, dad is a cop so don't give me a ticket for anything.
