Ok. I finally pulled the trigger and bought a TruckVault.

TruckVault - Vehicle Cargo Secure Storage Solutions

So, since it was a pretty penny, I figured people might want to know about it, in case they're thinking about it.

First, about the vehicle and what I was looking for.

My vehicle: 2009 Ford Escape, V6, AWD.

What I'm looking for: storage for a full sized rifle with magazines, spare magazines for my carry pistol (M&P), and a spare pistol and magazine.

So, I finally called and ordered.
There is a dealer in Munster, but they just install. They don't have models there for you to look at.
So, I ordered it off the internet. Since the install is supposed to be easy for the Escape, I had it shipped to me.

They sent me a sales quote.
I had to sign it, scan it, send it back.

1st, they quoted me 2 months. Order date was 19 Sept. I just received it today.

Before sending in scans, I verified dimensions were okay.

    Next. Options I chose.
$1,600 base. Single drawer. Push button combo lock (with back up key). 2 long dividers and 2 short dividers. delivery.
$85 foam. Knife and Pen included.
$335 Metal Shroud. I wanted a little more armor. It's a wood vault, so I wanted a metal liner.
$175 Tie-Down Rails with 4 cargo rings. This allows me to tie stuff down on the top. I never liked the fact that there was no real way to tie stuff
down in the cargo area. Now I can.

So, they (or the shipping company) called to arrange delivery.
    You have to be there.
So I arranged it for today, 10AM to 2PM delivery time.
    It showed up around noon.

It weighed approx. 150 pounds. There was 1 delivery guy. So I helped him unload it onto my 2 wheel cart. Not sure what they'd have done if I was unable to help.

This is it, after opening the box and removing the drawer.

    This is the drawer.

There is a "stop" to keep the drawer from coming out onto your feet, you defeat that to remove the drawer all the way.

We had to drill two holes.
Then we put in this part that gets tightened down, flares out, then it acts like a threaded socket.
This went under the weather strip.

Now you can see the weather strip is back.
There are 2 metal bars that we previously attached to the bottom of the vault, and these bolt into the holes we just drilled and added the threaded part.

Here is the TruckVault, with the drawer installed.
On top, you can see the tie off points.

And here it is with the foam cut to fit Black Betty.
Black Betty is a full sized AR-10, so she fits corner to corner. This is with the shoulder stock where I like it.
Of course, I could have retracted stock to get more room.
Or, went for a shorter rifle.

Other vehicles can have longer vaults, that can fit the rifle lengthwise.
But I got one of the smaller ones, the Escape is a small SUV.

But, I still have room for Black Betty, and all the magazines, spare pistols I intended.

The foam piece I cut out. Gave it to the neighbor for his kid to use for Halloween.

Tomorrow I should be able to anchor the front.
Cut out for magazines and pistol, and dehumidifier.

I'll probably add a motion activated LED and some glow sticks.

Following. I'm surprised you had to be home to accept this delivery. We used New: Gun Safe Lights from Gun Digest - Gun Digest motion activated lights in Dad's home safe, and he is more than pleased. Not sure if there would be a better option in a moving vehicle with things moving/vibrating in the vault. I'll be interested to see what your set up is moving forward.

This may seem like a dumb question. Is your work parking area and route to it covered by the parking lot law or not.

Wait, you didn't go with the Prisoner Cage option?

    That's kinda short-sighted, don't you think? ;)

Anyway, looks like a good solution.

These are made out of wood? I never would have guessed. I wonder how they compare (price and performance) to steel versions?

I have a steel version (not made by truck Vault). Rookie (posted above) made me one that is very similar. Mine is for the bed of my truck, so It will be exposed to rain, and it will have a lot of weight on it. I had it made as large as possible, and still be able to hook up my goose neck trailer. It trying to figure out pictures now. I bought it un finished, and took it to my local body shop, and had them rhino liner it. I will get pictures up as soon as I can figure out how to post them.
