We use paint markers at work to fill in text/engraving all the time. They come in many colors from MSC.

Here is how we do it.
Fill in the engraving, by generously painting over the area. No need to only keep the paint in the engraving.
Allow the paint to dry.
Clean up the extra / over paint by applying lacquer thinner to a paper towel wrapped over something hard like a piece of wood. Simply hold the paper towel wrapped block flat against the engraved surface & rub the access paint off.
I am not sure how the paint will hold up to cleaning solvents, but it should not be too hard to redo.
