I guess I failed to read where it says any of this "volunteerism" is mandatory? Can someone point that out specifically?
I will assume then that should it be added that the only repercussions for it would be a lack of federal assistance for school or something, much like not signing up for selective service. My child will NOT be forced to volunteer, he can go through church, scouts or whatever but it will not be in a government program. And we won't qualify for federal student aid anyway, the wife and I are both productive members of society.
+1 for you Fire. However the danger is in what the "legislation" is trying to do. As it is written it's just a small program in which a young MAY volunteer if they want and in return MAY qualify for federal aid for college.
So if this passes and the sheep get use to it then they will come back and say well it worked so well or not enough people are volunteering lets now make it mandatory for all youth.
Then once that works lets make it try it on another age group as well. Smaller kids, next, since that way the gov can being to brainwash them as well.
It's a slippery slope to enslavement as SE calls it. Just like they can come out and outright ban all firearms. They take your freedom a little bit at a time and all the sheep to get use to it.
THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO BIZ IN DOING VOLUNTEER WORK! That is what we have churches and other not-for-profit groups for. Last I saw it was not in our constitution for the government to take care of everyone!
I think this crosses a very serious line. I for one work full time and have a family. I volunteer and work in our church too. I never seem to have enough time. If this were applied to me it would pretty much have the effect of the goverment choosing their program over my church. (My family always, and I'd have to work to eat so what does that leave to exchange time wise?)
What happens when they decide that they still don't have enough "Volunteers"? And besides when I finally retire the last thing I want is the goverment mandating my free time.I think that's why it targets teenagers and retirees. They don't have to worry about not having time.
