Question, @ What is the farthest shot at a USPS event?

It depends on what range you're shooting at. At Atlanta Conservation Club, 25-30 yds, max. At Wildcat Valley, 50 yds. WVPPS, 50 yds. South Central, 40 yds.

Shots over 30 yds are very rare (more rare than they should be, IMO). You might see 50 yds shots in one match per year, maybe.

We used to shoot 50 yards on one stage almost every month at my original club (the late, lamented Coal Creek Gun Club). I'd like to see 50 yard shots at least a few times a year return to the mix.

Long shots are unusual, as slow1911s mentioned. Most will be from 5-10 yards.

heh, distance will be one of the least of your worries...

unless you're Rhino, who went through like 15 mags one stage...

he pulled mags from places I didn't know you could carry mags :D

Oh, you know where I had them. Your mind has just blotted it from your consciousness as a protective measure.

I'm collecting Glock mags for a "Shoot Almost All of My Ammo Because I Can, Redux" for 2010. Since each one holds 17 rounds, this could be fun.

We had 35 yard plus shots on one stage at WVPPS every match since July or August. There was a request for distance and we try to please.:)

Indeed and I appreciate it, sir!

I recall on that stage I had a miss . . . on one of the targets that was really close! I got my hits on the long shots! ARGH!

Same here, I got good hits on the long targets and then had a Alpha Mike on one of the 3 yd targets I was running by.

I hate it when I do that.

I think the boots let me run too fast.

That's what happens when we don't have a good sight picture on each shot (myself included). It's almost comically easy for a good shooter like BillD or Hickman to miss an "easy" target because they're mentally focused on the "hard" target! Pulling off too soon has probably caused tens of thousands of "alpha-mikes" in the past.

I see 'em all when I enter them into the scoring software!

The alpha-mike because you pulled off too soon is frustrating. Unless you always always always call your shots, you don't realize it happened until the RO is scoring the targets. Then you hear "alpha ..." (pause) " ... mike!" Then you think to yourself, "WHAT??!!! How the heck did I have a miss!"

A number of years ago I set up a stage that had 25 yard A-zone shots. So many people complained before the match started that the MD changed it.
