I've long been interested in the "Benedict option", where Christians essentially retreat into a redoubt to weather the storm and re-emerge but...it has also felt a bit contradictory to our call to evangelize at the same time.
Now, the "Boniface option" is emerging in my reading. Boniface, being a Benedictine monk who confronted the pagan Saxons, chopping down their tree where their god dwelled.
How do we cut down the trees where our modern gods live? People try to replace God in their lives with government, their political team, their careers, their status and titles, their wealth, their property...to engage in the Boniface option, we have to start chopping down trees in order to testify there is only one God.
It has been convicting for me personally and also making me re-evaluate how I view community, politics, and culture.
The Boniface Option
*Moderators, I wasn't sure if this belonged in the political section or "Break room" as it is both politics and religion really.
