According to CNN, the Obama White House is mulling over the decision as to whether to force wounded combat veterans to pay for treatment for combat-related injuries with private health insurance. From the CNN piece:

No official proposal to create such a program has been announced publicly, but veterans groups wrote a pre-emptive letter last week to President Obama voicing their opposition to the idea after hearing the plan was under consideration.
The groups also cited an increase in "third-party collections" estimated in the 2010 budget proposal -- something they said could be achieved only if the Veterans Administration started billing for service-related injuries.
Asked about the proposal, Shinseki said it was under "consideration."
"A final decision hasn't been made yet," he said.
Currently, veterans' private insurance is charged only when they receive health care from the VA for medical issues that are not related to service injuries, like getting the flu.
Charging for service-related injuries would violate "a sacred trust," Veterans of Foreign Wars spokesman Joe Davis said. Davis said the move would risk private health care for veterans and their families by potentially maxing out benefits paying for costly war injury treatments.

Now, I happen to agree with the Washington state Democrat, Patty Murray, cited in the article as saying that such a measure would not be warmly received on Capitol Hill. Backing this plan, at the very least, would be political suicide. Still, considering the attitude shown toward or troops by this White House and by other congressional Democrats, it should be at the very least interesting to watch.

What drives me absolutely insane is that the very same administration pushing health care coverage for everyone is, at the same time, apparently considering forcing men and women injured in battle to procure private insurance. That means that illegal immigrants--people who have no legal right to even be on American soil--could receive free health coverage while our endlessly brave fighting men and women would not.

For those who came here under cover of darkness, it's si, se puede. For those who spilled blood for America and for all of us, it's thanks, but no thanks.

Something is very, very wrong here.

Agreed. Additionally, don't most private health insurances have a clause excluding "injuries sustained as a result of acts of war"? And if so, would that not preclude the whole thing?

I suggest that if Barry Hussein cannot stand behind our troops, he should stand in front of them. Preferably with a blindfold and a cigarette.

    Blessings,
    Bill

That would be a big yes they do. One of the reasons our life insurance was finally raised from the 100,000$ mark also. :twocents:

I can not comment on my opinion of BHO...:)

You forget Champus. If he routes the bills through that organization to offset some of the cost, they will cover war injuries. "O" could simply expand the program (spend more money that the U.S. doesn't have) to make it available to a wider group of veterans and "cost-share" the amount that the VA starts to charge the veteran.

I cannot put into words the fury this proposal causes me. Brave men and women who serve our country and are wounded in combat get less consideration than the slime that sneaks across our borders in the cover of darkness to steal our country away from us! B Hussein Obama has done everything in his power to strip Americans of our freedoms while giving everything to those that wish to live off the government and destroy this country. I fear that if this outrageous legaslation is allowed to become a reality it might just be the final straw for some people. When are the hard working , tax paying citizens of this country going to wake up and see what isheppening here? I know I'm wandering off topic a bit but this is just another piece of a larger plot to strip and destroy the working class of this country.

BTW, most insurance companies have exclusions for preexisting illness/conditions. I'm sure they'd work that in there somehow.

He may be hoping that people are outraged and insist on universal government run health care as a way of taking care of our troops and vets. That way he gets what he wants. We all keep waiting on the straw the breaks the camels back. Everyone talked after 9/11/01 that everything had changed, never again would something like that be allowed. It didn't take too long though before the libs and their willing accomplices in the press started beating the public back into submission. It won't take the ONE long to have us primed and ready for another terrorist attack on our soil. Will that then be the proverbial straw?

We might as well do away with workers comp insurance also. Its basically the same thing! :xmad:

Ohhhh Don't get me started on Workers Comp! I've been off work going on 3 months with a work related injury and they say they won't pay me anymore. My doctor won't let me work w/o restrictions, my job won't let me work with restrictions and I can't even collect unemployemnt b/c I "technically" have a job. I've talked to a couple lawyers and keep getting the "That's not my field" speech. I'm almost at "My Last Straw". Sorry for the mini rant. It's is a total disgrace to treat American service people with as little regard as our so called Commander In Chief has shown. But what would you expect from such a slime ball that wants us to become a socialsit state and who actually hates the majority of the people he is supposed to represent?

    My, how things have changed!!!
My father served in the Army during WWII. He was not injured during his service. (Thank God!)

When he was in his 40's, he was diagnosed with colon cancer. He was treated at the local VA. Neither he, nor my mother were charged for that treatment (including several surgeries) NEVER! It was paid for by the government for his service.

I have seen the decline in treatment, and many services being charged to the vet. :xmad: Now, some vets have to go to Indy to receive treatment! (That they have to pay for.)

It makes me SO angry that our service personnel are being stabbed in the back by the very government that they protect(ed). (While that same government (politicians) get the best of care - at our expense! :xmad::xmad:)

    What's wrong with this picture!?!

:+1: That is why I am so against any type of government heath care. If they can not get it right for those of us that have served how are they going to do all of America?????

    Hiding from reality
I have been to VA at for at least 2 appointments every other week for past few months, and I was stunned when I was asked for an insurance card. Every Vet that was checking in to primary care was asked the same question. I have also been asked to provide sick call slips for a few old injuries that I had recieved up to 20 years ago! I think it is nuts to have to jump through hoops when back and knee injuries are so obviously from hitting the ground hard, and get aggravated when you have 40 pounds of body armor and 25 pounds of equipment on for days at a time. DUH!
And don't even get me started on psych issues. I think the counselors really do a fine job, but I hate that they try to fix everything with medications that I am not too keen on taking. Makes me worry on what is going to happen when I leave transitional health care in the event I don't find any work.

OK, I will get off my soapbox now:):
