**EDIT**I got my computer back, read below
I have an Asus laptop that I've grown quite fond of. It is about 15 months old and is a ULV (ultra low voltage) model which means it uses very little power. Therefore it has plenty of power to do what I do (word processing, web browsing, some flash games) and the battery lasts about 8 hours.
ANYWAYS
I had a crack in the bezel around the screen. No biggie, it was just cosmetic and I wasn't all that concerned about it. My plan was to superglue it when I got around to it. Well the other day I was using it and all of a sudden the screen just flopped over. The hinges holding the monitor to the keyboard pretty much disintegrated. I took the bezel off and sure enough the metal parts are fine, but the plastic parts in the hinge are toast. The computer is fully functional and I backed it up before I packaged it up and sent it in to ASUS to fix it. I could have replaced a bezel myself but the parts in the hinge that were broken also runs behind the screen. Taking the screen out is above my paygrade so I shipped it in.
Their policy is the following: I pay for shipping both ways and once they receive it, they give me a quote on fixing it. I assume I will receive a call tomorrow. Anyone have a ballpark figure on what I should expect? At some point I realize it's not worth it. Looks like I could get another on ebay for about $400 and since I have no other problems with the computer, that seems to be as much as I'm willing to fix it.
Meanwhile, our 6 year old Dell 1505 is on loan from a dusty shelf. If I even THINK about unplugging it, the battery dies. Works surprisingly well though. Someone give me a holler if they want to make an offer on the Dell when this mess gets figured out.
