Looking for opinions on Springfield 1911 range officer compact compared to RIA M1911 Tactical.
Want to buy one for carry / range. Currently using a Glock 21 for range.
Thanks
I have used Springfield 1911s and can say they are great 1911s. I haven't used RIA and while they seem ok from several I have seen in pistol matches they have been so so.
There is no comparison to the 2. RIA's are OK for what they are and yes you will find a turd from SA as with any manf but the Range officer is a serious shooter for the price point. It will live a very long and happy life plus if you should so desire that gun will accept upgrades and modifications all the way up to this.
Yup there is an SA range officer in there.....somewhere...
And no I would never ever consider doing this with an RIA.
OK I just realized you said compact. Ugh. That is not a range toy.
No experience with RIA. Have had a Springfield 45 Ultra Compact for 15+ years and it has never failed to fire or eject anything it was loaded with. It is my go to carry gun.
I had a RIA compact. It shot amazingly well for a short barrel.
It's strength and weakness is the tapered barrel. It locates the barrel in the slide better than the average bushing initially but I didn't hold on to mine long enough to see what effect wear has on accuracy.
For a daily carry that you 'hit what you see' rather than 'see what you hit', I would trust one.
For a gun you want to put 1000 rounds a month through, not so much.
I’m not a 1911 guy by any means and I really like that SA RO in 10mm but their politics will not allow me to send my money to them. So I’d go with another brand, I’d look at Sig. RIA and SA are not apples to apples in my book.
