U.S. instant criminal background checks to purchase a firearm fell in July compared to a year earlier, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. These figures are the total monthly background chacks, and could represent multiple checks on the same person.
The National Instant Criminal Background Check System is used to determine if a prospective buyer is eligible to purchase a firearm.
Since the program began in 1998, 171,920,643 background checks have been completed, or one for every 1.84 Americans.

The craziness has been dead for a while. I have been able to find guns for 6 months, and ammo for 3. Granted I still see some nut on armslist with a dpms AR for 2500 bucks every once in a while. Lol. Always makes me wonder if he just doesn't stay on top of things, went into a gunshop, saw an AR, and thought he hit the jackpot.

Lol yeah it's been a pretty weak market for months.
I just saw a $3000 Colt sporter marked sale pending on Armslist. He either found a sucker or is really looking for one.

ammo is still tough to find at places like walmart, i did stop at a gun shop in southern indiana, they had lots of .223, but the price was riduclous, this was 2 weeks ago. at least we are seeing AR prices back to normal in most places.

Yes Walmart still seems to be suffering from the grab all you can crowd. If you ever make it to the big box stores they even had 22lr ammo in stock a few days ago as well as expanding shelf space for ammo again. Who knows until the next act of stupidity causes the next shortage for those who failed to plan ahead.

I stopped at a shop yesterday that was stocked with everything, at fairly normal prices. bought a few boxes of pmc xtac for 8.99 per box, some 9mm for 18/box, .40 for 21/box, and they had eley match .22lr for 4.60/box, I didn't get any. These two ads were posted today on craigslist, he's been trying to get rid of this stuff for about 6 months. This is his new, reduced pricing

I've been judging the madness by several different factors. For one, my LGS has LOTS of handguns and AR/AK "EVIL" rifles in stock. Magpul mags are in stock and back down under $15. Ammo has been becoming more available online and in stores. I have been able to stock thousands of 9mm and .45 without paying more than $15/box of 50.

I just received the new Cabela's add. Front page has a Colt LE AR for $849 (reg $999) as a Saturday door buster. Many pages filled with handguns, rifles (including ARs) and shotguns.

Things will be normal (for me) when I get a Cabela's weekend flyer with 9mm on sale for 10 bucks a box again. It will still take a while, but it will happen.

Great statistics. It's good that prices are finally back/close to back to normal. Its a bummer that some of the better quality reloading parts/ammo are still hard to find in calibers like the 223/5.56. It seams that local gunstores are getting good shipments in... hopefully it stays that way.

Stopped at walmart saturday morning to see if i could find anything i needed. And once again there was the SAME line of grumpy old men buying everything they had in stock for ammo. All they had was two boxes of .223, 6 boxes of winchester white box 9mm and one box of 7.62x39. To many people and no ammo just caused them to argue about who was there first. I just walked away and laughed and went home. If these people would just stop going everyday to buy everything even when they have thousands of rounds for what they need and thousands for those they don't we all could probably see ammo at the big stores again.

I was at a swap meet Saturday and every dealer was well stocked with .223 but pretty much wiped out of handgun ammo. Many had 9mm and .45 auto left on their tables but the average price was $45 for a box of 50. I did manage to score a couple boxes of that elusive .22 magnum.

Hey, I don't think Engalwood is that old! (You have to see the "Get Your Ammo Here" thread to understand my humor :):)
