We all know that the media could care less about facts, and more interested in what sounds good or the timely manner in which a story breaks. Here is another example of fantastic reporting by the local WTHR.
It's an alright story.... pic and caption pasted below, can you find the obvious mistake?

Chris Lytle is another member of Engine 29 that fights for UFC.

You're going to have to explain it to me, I don't see the issue here? Unless you're nitpicking about them being members of "Engine 29" instead of "Station 29"

I never saw that. They must have used old footage of the 29s, Chris is assigned to the 1's and Shamar is a substitute firefighter, without a assigned house yet.

Shamar Bailey works for IFD Engine 29.

    Another media mistake above.

A truck has a ladder and each truck is given a number.
an Enigne pumps water and has yet another number.
A station houses both trucks and engines and is given yet another number.

So truck 5 and engine 13 can be housed a station 26.

Engines and ladders come in different shapes and sizes depending on the need. And as the city's needs change the engines and trucks can be reassigned to different stations.

    Hope this helps.

That's about on par with the media. Years ago I read a story in the Indy Star about a gun in a school. One day it was a 25mm. The next it was .25mm.

I wanna see the kid that hefted the gun that fires 25mm. He also needs to tell me where he got it 'cause I want one.

    Nomenclature for IFD houses is:

    Station 29
    Battalion 29
    Engine 29
    Medic 29
    Ladder 29
    Squad 29
TRU 29 (Tactical Rescue Unit - High-angle and confined space rescue)

Any house can have a truck that is marked with another number, at least temporarily, if the house apparatus is out for service. Also, after the FD mergers, a lot of equipment was shuffled around for better response times of special apparatus. Some of these trucks may still have their old house number on them, but I would not guess that's what it is. The FD is usually very quick on getting new striping on new rigs.

    Thanks for the breakdown fellas!

I spent a good ammount of time doing work in firehouses but in all my chats with the firefighters we never once talked about "vehicular assignments"... although I've had COUNTLESS conversations about other fun stuff that happens in/around/to firemen/fire stations... :)::):

Not true for Indy, that is correct for FDNY and Chicago but not here. :D

    Nomenclature for IFD houses is:

    Station 29
    [STRIKE]Battalion 29[/STRIKE]
Bat 14 Is the geozone No Bat Chief at 29s
    Engine 29
    Medic 29
    Ladder 29
    Squad 29
    [STRIKE]TRU 29 (Tactical Rescue Unit - High-angle and confined space rescue) [/STRIKE]
TSU Tactical Support Unit Compressor for air bottles and pack parts
Tach 29 (Urban search and Rescue)

Closer but some of your facts are off. ;)

The point is that neither FF is assigned to station 29 and that is the fact that the media pointed out. Great investigation.

Batt 29 was there when I did my EMT school in 01. Been a while. Now with the fire mergers and Indy EMS there's all sorts of confoundery.
