    Hello!

I’ll start by saying that I live in a neighborhood so stepping out my back door and dumping a mag into the ground, even if it were legal, is probably unwise.

That said I want to identify what laws apply for the sake of being aware and understanding them. (Not so I can do things that may be legal even if they’re a bad idea.)

I am in Madison Township in Morgan County. I’ve been trying to figure out how to locate my local ordinances / laws. I know that Morgan County laws apply obviously but I haven’t had much luck finding out what they are online via any official sources.

I’m wanting to read them not just due to firearms but firearms is a good reason.

I wasn’t sure what section of the forums this should be in so if I put it in the wrong place - I do apologize for that.

Tl;Dr how does one find out what local ordinances and laws apply to them?

I am not a lawyer. However I believe that you would probably got away with it the first time. Obviously ignorance is not innocence. That being said, if you informed people of your intentions of shooting in the evening hours or even finding a safe place to do so it may help in not being identified as a disorderly person. (4.17)

The phone numbers on that site are all not Indiana area codes. I couldn’t find anywhere on that site that said Indiana. Maybe I was blind?

That said I’m wanting to read all of the laws (not just the firearm ones).

I'd recommend a discussion with the Sheriff's office. They're the ones that will be responding to any calls for service unless you're in an incorporated town with a local police force. The two biggest factors will be noise & safety.

You can find all of the Morgan County Ordinances here:

It it extremely unlikely that your township has any ordinances separate from the county, as that's outside of their responsibilities.
    • Providing fire protection
    • Providing for poor relief and burial of the indigent
    • Maintaining cemeteries and burial grounds
    • Resolving fence disputes
    • Controlling weeds and underbrush
    • Managing the township budget and financial records
    • Preparing an annual financial report

Im regretting not setting aside some fireworks 6 months ago...

Might have to make due with leftover bottle rockets. I bought several gross a couple years ago miscalculating just how long it would take to go through that many. LOL
