I'm thinking about buying a full size 9mm, I've been steered clear of the m9 even though that's all I've got experience with and I would like to come up with a Sig Sauer p226 or p229 but I think the CZ 75 is more within my price range. if anyone has any recommendations or has spent some time putting rounds downrange with any of these give me your honest opinion. I know I will need to go through a few mags myself before I make my decision but any input is good input!

Sigs are nice but I don't really care for the trigger unless it's SRT. CZ's are built like tanks and feel like a brick in the hand. Very rugged. I also am biased to Beretta 92's. Parts everywhere you can find decent prices on lightly used ones and they are a dream to shoot..especially if you install a D spring.

If you can find one I also say try looking into a Smith & Wesson 5906..most you see are PD trade ins and are also built like a tank. They last for ever.

i like taurus' 92 vs. the baretta just based on the quality of machining and my compact has the same trigger set up as the sigs and i like it but was told that i would be better off getting something other than the 92 because they are antiquated but i am still leaning that direction because thats what i started out shooting and i can put a two round group on a 3x5 card at 25 yards with the 92.... im in a bit of a pickle here and just want the most reliable best made firearm i can come up with... my proficiency with whatever i buy will come, i adapt easily.

lmao whoever said the 92 is antiquated is full of **** if that was true then the 1911 is ancient!:D

I personally love the 92 design but the others I mentioned are good too..again I'm just being biased. Another gun you might look into if you want an all steel framed 9mm like the CZ would be the gun it was partially based off...the Browning Hi Power. It's single action only like the 1911 and was designed by the same man with some help from a gent named Saive at FN. The hefty weight soaks up all the recoil to the point it feels like you are shooting a 22. The only down side is it comes with a mag disconnect that some like others hate. I am so so on it because it messes with the trigger pull. But removing it is easy enough from watching a video via Youtube.

If you do want more info regarding the Beretta check: http://www.berettaforum.net:D

yeah i had about the same reaction on what he said about the 92 but i thought i should play the devils advocate to get an honest opinion. i am definitely interested in steel frame, i just cant get on board with the composite, they just dont feel right, and you can ask the guy that referred me to ingo im really old school on my firearm preference anyway. im going to look into that browning, im a huge fan of the 1911 design but im a die hard 9mm guy :rockwoot:

I'm the same way. I am 24 and do like certain polymer framed pistols but I don't hate on the old school all metal boat anchors. :D If you ask me they are gonna last a lot LONGER in the long run compared to their polymer counterparts. :rockwoot:

As for the Hi Power it is rumored that John Browning himself claimed with the Hi Power design he would do everything he should have done with the 1911. I also look at it as it's a 1911 on a diet. :):

I mean I don't hate on 40 or 45 cal but I do get sick and tired of hearing all the 9mm bashing. Shot placement is what counts obviously and I would rather pay $12 a box of 9mm compared to $18+ for a box of 45.:ar15:

Here's some vids for you to look at regarding the Hi power design enjoy.:)

The Hi Powers are nice. Taurus also made a 1911 chambered in 9mm. I enjoyed shotting that handgun alot. Classic look and low recoil. S&W's M&P's are affordable.

I have two full-size 9mm's: a Beretta 92FS (of 1998 vintage) and a Gen3 Glock 34. It's a toss-up as to which one I prefer on any given day, although I like the option of shooting single action with the Beretta.

I have carried a CZ-75 for a while now, and it is by far the best 9mm I have fired to date. Couldn't fall in love with the 92, had a ruger p95 that I liked, and now am about to jump into the plastic gun world with a beretta px4. Nothing compares to the grip and feel of a CZ75. I'd say go for it.

CZ75 or Hi Power would be, and are, my choice. I own several varieties of each and they are both great weapons. I love the way the HP fits in my hand and the ease of carry but the CZ shoots better and is a bit more versatile. Lately I've been carrying a MKIII HP in a leather IWB holster and it feels right at home. :twocents:

i had completely forgotten about the high power to be perfectly honest, but im getting pretty excited now that im reading up on it! im thinking i might get a classic high power first and then come up with a CZ 75 sp-01 to have a more modern option later! :D

Love my CZ 75BD, grip and all. Only way the 75's grip would feel like a "brick" is if you have very small hands. She's a natural pointer, unlike some of those over-hyped polymer things.

I am also partial to a 92 for all the reasons listed here plus it is venerable which means plentiful extra magazines, grips....etc... after all it didn't become venerable by being a bad weapon :D

OK, if I said I wasn't partial to the Beretta 92 series I would be the biggest liar not in Washington DC. I do offer as an alternative the Beretta PX4 Storm. I like mine to the point that it is one of my carry pieces and is my primary in home weapon.

    In a cornfield.
I've been looking into getting a 92A1 for quite some time. Dovetail sights, custom grips available, high capacity, accessory rail.

My friend has a MK25 and wants to marry it. He was carrying a 1911 Sig for about a year til he bought that recently.

I own or have owned a Beretta 92FS, Browning Hi Power, and CZ 75BD. IMHO, I would have to rank them like this:

    1. CZ
    2. Browning
    3. Beretta

+1 on CZ. I have an SP-01 and it's great. For price point, reliability, accuracy and ergonomics, I don't think it can be beat. Even leaving out price point, still hard to beat.
