    A novice question, what does the color of the follower on an AR mag mean?
    It seems to be mentioned in lots of adds but I have not seen the reason. TIA

    Black plastic followers were the USGI standard in the 1980s and early 90s IIRC, when the "anti-tilt" design was introduced. It was colored light green to distinguish it from the previous generation. Other companies, most notably Magpul, have made their followers in a variety of colors over the years. A change in color here may, but does not necessarily, indicate a follower design change.
