Does anyone have any tips for me? I'm hoping to install my first LPK soon.

I don't have any specialty tools. But I'm assuming they make the install A LOT easier?

It's a Spikes Enhanced LPK, going in a Spikes lower.

When it comes time to install the front pivot pin spring and detent do so in a small, clean place where finding the spring and detent will be easy.

A large clear plastic bag works well, too.

Flat feeler gauges can also be used to hold the detent in place while sliding the front takedown pin into position. An inexpensive (~$20) AR wrench will help with tightening the castle nut, and a $5 center punch will cover staking the receiver plate into the castle nut gap.

If its a stripped receiver make sure you support the bottom, front side of the trigger guard when you put in the pin. You can break off one of those "ears" if you aren't careful.

Does anyone local carry the roll punches and such?

Any hardware store will have punches, but the special one for the detent I've never seen.

I use a thin card (like a credit card) or a razorblade or something to hold the detent in while I slide the take down pin in the slot. If you do it this way, I recommend putting the lower in a box on its side so if the spring and detent get away from you they'll still be in the box and not flying around the house.

I'm went the route of finding someone very experienced who has the tools, is happy to show me the process, and is willing to work for beer. Good beer.

That's a good idea. Did you think of that?

Loctite vs staking the receiver plate.
Which one is better, or do you do both?

I read the box trick somewhere, not sure where though. Probably arfcom.

I've had them staked in the past, but now I just loctite them (blue).

If you run a dill bit into each of the holes (not large enough to actually drill anything) with your finger, you can get out any of the sand, particles, finish residue.

Roll pin punches are carried at Discount Tools on the south side of Indy and several of the better hardware stores ....

Check that you got the correct dis-connector spring, a couple times ;-)

I just used Youtube- Cheaper than Dirt channel to install a spikes enhanced LPK in my Noveske. No special tools needed. Needle nose pliers, punch and hammer and patience.
Went somewhat smooth for a clutz:-)

I tape up the side when putting in the roll pin for the bolt release. That way I don't scratch anything :)

For the take down pins I use a slave pin of full diameter. Put spring and detent in, slide slave sideways to compress, push it into receiver holes, just leaving the back so that the goodies don't go flying. Line up take down pin on top of slave, shove it in pushing slave out. Done.
