This guy came out yesterday evening at 5:15 PM. I had passed him last year as a 3 1/2 year old deer and I am happy with what he became. I saw him a couple times during archery season and on opening morning of firearms season, but I could never get a shot off at him. I roughly gross scored him last night at 150" :)

Here's mine. Took him about 5:35 pm on Sunday. Standing 80 yard shot with the .458 socom and the Barnes TTSX ball. 1943

Man, what a great buck! Its hard to let the 3 1/2 year olds pass, especially since he was probably a 130, but it sure payed off!

How would you compare the knock down power and damage to the deer over a 12 gauge slug?

I'm impressed with the knockdown power of each and I would put them on par with one another in that category.

I will say that my SOCOM is much more accurate than any slug gun I have ever shot, and I am comfortable shooting it to farther distances.

I know on paper, they are supposed to be about the same. Just curious what the real world showed. Congrats on a nice buck.

So a .458 SOCOM is a legal hunting rifle in Indiana? I figured that would be classified as a high powered rifle. In order to get a .458 upper on an AR do you have to custom build, or can you find complete rifles?

    Congratulations to both of you

Excellent deer, both of you! Wow.

Hey 1943, that rifle looks to be pointing in a very uncomfortable direction.

    Best regards,

    Terry

Yeah I know. Not only was there none in the chamber, there were none in the clip. And I should have done a better job of posing. Thanks Dave
