No, it's just because of how the scabbard fits into the leather frog. Those are Romanian bayonets and they have a much larger, full-length leather frog than other types of AK bayonets. The scabbard has a protrusion, and the button on the handle sticks out, so it's better to have them facing...
You're mistaken. I think you're confusing the SAR-1 with the "Romy G", which was a semi auto only variant of the PM Md. 63 which was issued to Romanian Civil guard units. Many Romy Gs were brought in as kits. The SAR-1 was manufactured for export to the United States, and the reason it lacks a...
Correct, and that was because of stupid laws that have thankfully gone away. Once my barrel is threaded and bayo lugs added I will essentially have a direct clone of a Romanian AKM.

I was at the show, I showed up at 9 on Saturday morning so parking was a breeze for me. It was a pretty typical 1500 (I go to almost every one). I was the guy wearing Belgian camo with an East German paratrooper vest and a backpack full of rare Czech camouflage which I had just bought. As usual...
Long overdue update. It went off without a hitch. I will warn you though - I didn't know what I was getting in to when he asked me if I would be able to "help" over the phone. I had to be on the bottom end of the safe moving it down the stairs. Everything was fine but I didn't exactly feel safe...
