Lot of really great memories from Cancun. Much more than getting blown out on the beach. Last time we went was 2 years ago and there were similar reports then. We spent a lot of time outside the resort, paid attention to our surroundings, and didnt have an issue. Nor did we see any issues. We didnt wear any flashy jewelry and kept our cash to a minimum.
The Mayan ruins in the area are spectacular if youre into that kind of thing: Chichen Itza

I always pay attention to the reports, but there are misleading news reports on both sides.
Back in the early 90’s, we were able to ascend to the top of Chichen Itza. Got a panoramic view of the jungle. You cannot do that anymore. To much damage caused by all of that foot traffic.
