Maybe in the US Army :dunno:,
For the most part the USMC used factory 700 Remington 40X rifles in 7.62X51
In the early 1970s, the USMC armorers at MCB Quantico began rebuilding the original M40s into M40A1s with getting rid of the wood stocks and Redfield scopes.
I have shot a few of those when I was in the Corps, caught a lot of crap cuz I am left eye dominant and shoot left handed. They told me it was a waste of the use of a good weapon, I tried to convince them otherwise...

I always thought of the Walther WA 2000 as a pretty beautiful gun in the design and engineering. The hybrid of blocky design with wood incorporated and that skeleton barrel shroud thing is like past, present, and future all in one.
That thing is cool as heck! I’d never seen one… looks like it would be fun to shoot.

Since the handgun thread seemed successful - but fairly obvious at the onset of what most would say.

I think rifles will show a lot more differences from each user on here.

Again, as in the other thread I made, my picture is just from the internet as I don't own my pick... yet.

Controversial, again, I'm sure but this is IT for me. The Sage EBR.

Years ago my brother bought me a M1A that the shipping tag from Springfield said it was made the same week it arrived at the gun store. They must have been in a rush cuz the walnut stock was just plain, fresh, untreated walnut that still smells like the sawmill every time I take it out of the case.

Very nice! Mine came in a cheap plastic stock, but i slapped the action into this usgi fiberglass when I got it home. I’ve since put it in a painted up usgi fiberglass stock and added a red dot. It’s a mean machine!

Fairly inexpensive to feed (relatively by modern standards) than most today. I keep several old battle packs around for the Zombie apocalypse...
