What type of feeder do you have for Orioles and what do they prefer to eat??
I made mine out of a orange frisbee, all-thread, and 3/4" chicken wire. I cut out a hole in the mesh and use a used fruit cup or ice cream cup for the food. I found they like grape jelly the best but they like orange halves too but the cost of of oranges are a little pricey for a steady diet of them. I put one out a week though and it's picked clean in a day. Have to refill the jelly too daily as they really like it.
Here's a pic of the cheaper one I made for the neighbor. Ran out off all-thread and hardware but it works just fine.

the daughter does the grape jelly for the oreos also. i used to put out the oranges but it is upsetting when you lose a couple of oranges before they finally find them.

I used to just set the orange halves out but like you said they don't find them before the wind or other critters do.
If you look back at my pic, I stab them on the point of the hanger and problem solved. No orange half on it now as I'm out of oranges right now.

I bought an oriole feeder from Wild Birds Unlimited and only did the oranges for the first year. Nothing but store brand grape jelly now.
